Mrs. Alice Bond, manager of the Edenton Job Service office, stated, “This is a good time to remember capability not chronological age is the measure of a man’s worth.” Bill Taylor is the specialist in the Edenton Job Service office, located at 709 North Broad St., who aids persons 40 and older in their job search. THE CHOWAN HERALD ’BO ZIP Code Book Is Published This year’s National ZIP Code and Post Office Directory will be easier to obtain and a little cheaper to buy, according to Edenton Postmaster, James M. Bond. The Postal Service is offering is customers the option of buying the directory at any post office or by direct mail. Two discount plans allow customers to save $1.50 on a single copy or up to $10.50 on a case of eight directories, Postmaster Bond explained. Ins. Comm. John Ingram Report RALEIGH - State In surance Commissioner John Ingram today disapproved a rate increase request by the insurance industry on automobile private passenger insurance rates. This time the North Carolina Rate Bureau, acting on behalf of the North Carolina liability insurance industry and the Rein surance Facility, requested over s3l million dollars in additional premiums from the citizens of North Carolina. Ingram said the Rate Bureau ignored both the letter and the spirit of the insurance laws and failed to assure the ac curacy of information furnished the Insurance Tim 1980 ZIP Code and Post Office Directory not only contains ZIP Codes for the United States and territories, but also gives information on various classes of mail, services improvemeht programs, new letter size standards, 3- digit ZIP Code maps and delivery statistics. The new directory also lists new streets, apartment com plexes and new and discontinued post offices. By “trading in” the front Commissioner’s office. Ingram said the filing is deficient in other areas as well: - It does not properly consider three years actual loss and expense experience required by law. • It establishes a higher (Reinsurance) Facility rate which is unfair. - It ignores the 6 per cent cap. Ingram said he had asked the General Assembly to protect citizens from unreasonable increases in premiums, specifically to require the insurance in dustry to give consideration to investment income from unearned premium loss and loss expense reserve funds. He said the General Assembly agreed, yet this filing fails to properly credit investment income against the profit allowance. This Ingram says means the proposed rate is too high. He said auditing is the only way to verify the ac curacy of a rate increase and the North Carolina Court of Appeals has upheld his right to demand this accuracy. The Order allows the Rate Bureau to submit an amended filing if they wish, based on properly audited information and complete compliance with the in surance law of North Carolina Ingram said if this course is followed, court action would be avoided. Chairman The Rural Development Panel of Chowan County is sponsoring a Gasohol Meeting to be held at the American Legion Building in Edenton on Tuesday, March 18. John Glover and Everett Nichols will be here to discuss the economics of gasohol as it relates to materials that could be used and how it might fit into an energy program for Chowan County and the surrounding areas. The Rural Development Panel which is made up of all USDA and county agencies here in Chowan County, feels that the energy crisis is one of the important issues and one that has to be faced if we are SI to have any curb on tion. . Agriculture is a prime user of energy and to decrease costs, we will have to decrease the amount of energy we are using in the production of field ■ crops. There are also many other non-agricultural segments that spend a great deal of their income on energy and this meeting should be of interest to those people also. In fact, the cost of energy affects everyone, and we would like to invite each of you to attend this meeting. We will have a discussion followed by a look at the distillery that could by used to produce alcohol. We would like to invite you to this meeting that will begin at 1:30 P.M. and end around 3:30 P.M.
