Thursday, March 20, 1980 ECHSA Application Is Disapproved For The Craven County Memorial Hospital An $11,889,000 application for the addition of 58 beds, and expansion and FCX Meeting News RALEIGH Directors of FCX, Inc. and Central Carolina Farmers Ex change, Inc., two of the oldest farmer cooperatives in North Carolina, have agreed to merge their organizations. In separate meetings, the boards voted unanimously to approve the merger. The decision, however, is subject td the execution of a formal plan and agreement of merger by each board and is further subject to member-stockholder ap proval. Target date for the joining js July 1. ) FCX, with headquarters in Raleigh, has local branches throughout North and South Carolina. CCF, based in Durham, operates in Durham, Granville, Chatham, Orange and Person counties. In !a joint statement following the merger an nouncement, Marvin Mc- Clam, president and general manager of FCX, and Brantley DeLoatche, general manager of CCF, explained that a merger would bring about sub stantial savings and in creased efficiency through joint purchasing and better utilization of facilities and personnel. Among the reasons for disapproval of the application for a Tennis Tournament Set The North Carolina Heart Association and North western Bank have an nounced plans for the Fourth Annual Statewide Tennis Tournament to benefit the Heart Fund. Local tournaments will be held during March and April throughout the state, with a variety of events being offered in each locality. The second stage of the statewide event will consist of play-offs in May in 10 districts and the Heart Association’s four Chapter areas (Gaston County, Charlotte - Mecklenburg, Forsyth County, and Greensboro). Winners of progressive events in local tournaments will compete against winners from other local tournaments in order to determine district champions. The third and final stage of the tournament will be the North Carolina Heart Association - Northwestern Bank State Tennis Cham required Certificate of Need, the governing body listed: lack of demonstrated need for the hospital beds; the availability of alter native, less costly, or more effective methods; questionable availability of financial and manpower resources; the project’s relationship to existing services; relationship of the project to the hospital’s own pionships, which are scheduled for June 20-22 at the Chapel Hill Tennis Club. Winners of each division in district play-offs will compete in a USTA sanctioned tournament in Chapel Hill. The divisions at the Championships will be men’s and women’s singles and doubles, men’s and women’s 35 singles and doubles, men’s and women’s 45 singles and doubles, men’s 55 singles and doubles, mixed doubles, and mixed 35-and-over doubles. Local entry fees of $lO for singles and $5 per person for doubles are contributions to the Heart Association. No fees are required at district play-offs. This year’s statewide tournament was planned by the Heart Association’s Tennis Work Group, chaired by Judy McKaughn of Hickory. Other members of the group are Roger An thony and Donna Sauls, Greensboro; Tommy Bumbarger, Hickory; Joyce Fowler, Gastonia; Marshall Happer, Raleigh; Margaret Kluttz and Anna Mills Wagoner, Salisbury; Bill Rocamora, Asheville; and Russ McCormick and Toni Adams, Chapel Hill. The Northwestern Bank is sponsoring the tournament for the second year. The statewide tournament provides players of all ages and abilities with an op portunity for healthy exercise and friendly competition and the satisfaction of contributing -through, theirantry .fees. to "the"redaction of premature death and disability from all forms of heart disease.
