Page 2-A Bandon Notebook: No Race Like Home By Maggie B. Hi, Neighbors! It’s so good to be home - no matter how humble, there is simply no {dace like home! We had no trouble with either the truck or the trailer and didn’t even see an accident coming or going! We missed the “big snow’’ and thoroughly enjoyed visiting our friends and relatives in Florida. The races were exciting, the scenery was lovely - but - when we reached the Chowan River Bridge on the way home, I breathed a prayer of thanksgiving. In my opinion, the Chowan River is one of the most beautiful rivers I’ve seen anywhere, especially when the sun is setting and the sky and waters are -ablaze with fantastic color. We didn’t see anything to equal it. We missed all the fine folk here too. We are so for tunate to be living in an area where neighbors are really “Since it has been my lot to find at every parting of the road The helping hand of comrade kind to help me with my heavy load. And since I have no gold to give and love alone must make amends. My humble prayer is, while I live “God make me worthy of my friends”. Anon. On this delightful Lord’s Day, it was a joy just to breathe in deeply of the fresh, clean air, look out over the calm waters of the mighty Chowan and quietly say a prayer of thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for His countless blessings and for the privilege of being able to openly worship Him in the church of our choice. The fine fine folk gathered at Bandon Chapel for a spiritual refueling were warmly welcomed by Sunday School Asst. Supt., Hugh Peters. He reported that the Center Hill Baptist Church starts their Revival Methodist Weekly News Sister Barbara Gerwe, area csrector of the Catholic Social Ministries, Diocese of Raleigh, will speak at the Edenton United Methodist Church Sunday, at 11 A.M. During the “big snow” here, Marvin Evans, who lives on Rarer Rd., a farmer and a member of “The Rocky Hock Boys”, was so concerned about the residents of Arrowhead Beach that he cleared a path from , River Rd. into Arrowhead Beach, down the main streets, and some driveways so that people could get out in case of emergency. Marvin used his equipment and spent a whole day of his time doing this! Many “Thanks” Marvin, you are indeed a “Good Neighbor”. I’d also like to express my appreciation to Butch Smith for taking my place at the organ on Sundays. His brother was killed in an Operation Overcharge WASHINGTON - Operation Overcharge’s effort to gain parity in electric rates for the people of Northeastern North Carolina has now entered its third phase, its leader declared Tuesday. “With the announcement Friday of an investigation of Vepco by the Federal Energy Regulatory Com mission, we have ended the second phase of our efforts and have moved into the third,” J. Larkin Little of Greenville, Overcharge Chairman, explained. Little said he was quite surprised that FERC’s announcement came while his group was in Washington, D.C., meeting on strategy with other organizations and agencies that have joined in the Overcharge battle. “That makes it sound like political manuevering,” Little said. “Well, it’s the first time that FERC has ever ordered an investigation of a power company, and we recognize it as a major milestone,” Little said. “But,” he said, “there are some things we don’t like about the par ticullar investigation or dered,” he pointed out. Under FERC’s plan, Little pointed out, a non-public investigation would be conducted by the en forcement arm of the commission, presented to the commission, and then FERC would decide whe ther to go public. It would take about eight months to complete the preliminary investigation. “We think nothing needs the light of public sunshine more than the management and operations of Vepco, and we’d like to see the investigation public from the start,” Little said. “We don’t believe FERC’s en forcement staff is equipped to conduct the kind of in vestigation that’s needed and, from that standpoint, Sears^'SSjUS Aluminum Guttering INSTALLED Custom-mad* at your horn* by our factory-on-wh**fs Offar expires 5/31/80 dial 482-2186 fore FREE ESTIMATE Sears SCARS.
