School System
Signs Contract
RALEIGH - A *14,274
contract with the Edenton-
Chowan School System was
signed recently by the
Division of Community
Employment under the
Comprehensive Em
ployment and Training Act
(CETA).
The division, an agency of
the N. C. Department of
Natural Resources and
Community Development,
signed with the school
district in the ground flow
hearing room of the Arch
dale Building here.
Five participants were
hired to provide aides to
teachers of a demonstration
project for exceptional
children. They were em
ployed under Title VI of
CETA, which requires a
participant to be unem
ployed for 10 to 12 weeks
prior to applying, to have a
family income not ex
ceeding 100 per cent of the
living standards set by the
U. S. Department of Labor
and to be a member of a
family receiving public
assistance for 10 of the 12
weds prior to application.
The contract runs through
September 30, 1980.
The division administers
CETA funds in 91 counties.
It is impossible for
statewide planning and
policy development of
employment and training
programs. The division
administered $104,612,351 in
CETA funds for programs in
which 77,975 participants
were enrolled during the
fiscal year ending Sep
tember 30, 1979.

Lieutenant Governor
James C. Green has named
two local residents guide his
reelection efforts in the
Chowan County area. Felix
Parker Chambers and Jim
Darnell have been chosen as
Co-Chairmen of tte local
North Carolinians to Re-
Elect Jimmy Green
Campaign in Chowan
County.
Chambers is presently
employed by George
Chevrolet in Edenton and is
a active member of the
VFW. Chambers worked for
Green in his initial 1976
campaign
Presently, Darnell is
president of Chowan
Veneer. He is also a
member of the Rotary Club
and former member of the
Edenton Jaycees.
In making the an
nouncement Green praised
Chambers and Darnell for
their longtime interest and
active participation in
community affairs.

Darnell have shown that
they are willing to work
hard for a better, more
responsive government,
Green said. Felix and Jim
bring to my campaign the
experience, dedication and
energy that I need and want
in my campaign.”

Green concluded.
ECU Students
Practice Teach
GREENVILLE Three
hundred and 28 East
Carolina University teacher
education students are
doing practice teaching in
North Carolina and Virginia
public schools this
semester.
The intern teachers are
from 54 counties in North
Carolina and 11 other states.
Dr. Thomas A Chambliss,
director of student teaching,
said each practice teacher
will conduct regular classes
under the direction of a
supervisor and will receive
a grade for performance.
