Thursday, April 24. hwu DECA Plans Bike-A-Thon The John A. Holmes DECA dub has volunteered to lead local residents in organizing a Bike-A-Thon to be held on Saturday, May 10 in Edenton for benefit of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic fibrosis, is the most serious lung-damaging disease and is incurable. One in every 1,600 American children inherits this devastating disease when they receive a gene for it from each of their parents. Through research funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foun dation, a test to identify carriers is being sought and scientist are pursuing a cure for control for cystic fibrosis. The bike-a-thon will help support these research programs and medical care to lengthen the lives of all lung-damaged children through over 120 Cystic Fibrosis Centers in the United States. Participants in the bike-a thon who raise $25 or more will win a T-shirt from the CF Foundation. The top 5 money raisers will win prizes from the Deca Club. First place will win an instamatic camera donated by Hoke Motor Company. Second place will win a pocket calculator donated by Edenton Office Supply. Third place will win a pocket portable radio donated by Parker-Evans Hardware. Fourth place will win six free passes to the Taylor Theatre, and fifth place will win four free passes to the Taylor Theatre. The starting place will be in front of John A. Holmes and the starting time will be 1:00 P.M. Sponsor sheets will be available at Chowan County Schools. For more information call the DECA Club at John A. Holmes. Personnel Attend Meeting , The North Carolina Association of Educational Office Personnel held its twenty-ninth annual con ference at the Inn On The Plaza in Asheville, April 10- 12. At this time, Marion Cross, Edenton-Chowan Schools Administrative Secretary, was installed as President of District 14’s AEOP. Approximately 950 members attended the conference. Those attending from Chowan County in cluded Pauline Travis, Edenton-Chown Finance Officer,, Ethel LaVoie and Connie Copeland, secretaries from John A. Holmes High School and Chowan High School, respectively. James Pressley, Director of In struction and Greg Todd, Holmes principal, represented the school system at the Bosses’ Night Installation Banquet. The theme of the con ference was “Climb Your Mountain’’. Conference workshops consisted of “Handwriting Analysis” by Hollyn Conant from Chicago, Illinois and “At titudes Awareness” by Hayes Ratledge and Judy Key of High Point. Special guest speakers consisted of Dr. James E. Vann of the North Carolina Science and Technology Research Center, Mr. Bob Terrell, Associate Editor of the Asheville Citizens Times, Mr. Jim Hamlett, professional dynamic speaker, and Miss Jeanne Swanner Robertson, for mer Miss North Carolina and now involved in full time speaking engagements entertained during the Friday evening “Bosses Banquet.” During the banquet, Dr. Roger Jackson, Superin tendent Ashe County Schools was presented the “Boss of the Year” Award and Mrs. Katrina Walker State NCAEOP President was chosen “Educational Office Personnel of The Year for the State of North .Carolina.” Business scholarships were awarded to two deserving high school seniors. ■_ DO SPECIALS SAVE YOU MONEY?
