J % pVaferi^^^obison^ CANKER SORES The canker sore (or apthous ulcer) is one of the best known and most persistently annoying dental lesions. It is small and whitish and may occur on the gums, cheeks or tongue. It appears singly and in clusters. A blister usually forms first, without notice, then breaks to form an open sore or canker. Then the acute pain begins. The open canker sore is especially sensitive to touch and to hot or spicy foods. The wedding will take place August 30, at Warren Grove Baptist Church at 2 P M. GRANDPARENTS OMITTED Heather Marie Briley was born July 26 in Chowan Hospital, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Briley, Jr., of Creswell. The paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Briley, Sr., of Plymouth, were omitted from the announcement in last week’s edition of The - Chowan Herald. sore normally runs its course in about a week or ten days. No good treatment is known for its cure at present. There’s not much you can do except to make sure you avoid irritating foods. Some people are especially prone to canker sores. They seem to run in families and there may be a connection between canker attacks and emotional stress, though there is still no definite information on the cause of this puzzling disorder. Saturday, August 2nd, 1980 was one of the most memorable days I’ve spent - my hubby and I celebrated our Fortieth Wed ding Anniversary! It was strictly informal, held in the back yard. Our children, grandchildren, closest neigh bors and many fr'-”-is of long standing from Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Va. and Arrowhead Beach were present (46 in all). Bill and his family came down United Sin . Miss Shelia Darlene Harrell became the bride of James William Sampson on June 7 at 7 P. M. at the home of the bride. Rev. Edgar Bunch per formed the double ring ceremony surrounded by palms, gladiolas, and ivy. Wedding music was per formed by Miss Terry Ealey, accompanied by Mrs. Wilma Lee. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy L. Harrell of Edenton. The groom is the son of Air. and Mrs. James Sampson of Excelsior Spring, Mo. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of sheer lace on a silk bodice with long sheer sleeves, cuffed from the elbow with silk covered buttons. The front was “V” cut fitting closely around the back of the neck, trimmed in pearls. The veil was long and trimmed in three-inch lace. The bride carried a bouquet of miniature car nations, daisies, find roses. Miss Corrine * Williams was the maid of honor. The 45-minute per formance will be dedicated to the memory of Don Sommers, who performed as “Old Tom” for six seasons beginning in 1938; Barbara Edwards St. Clair, who will be remembered for her outstanding protrayal of Friday afternoon so they could help set up for the “big” event. Saturday morning everyone was up bright and early! Our neighbor, Gus Moore, came over to help. In a very short time the back yard had a very festive air! Paul and his family arrived around 11 A.M. He was immediately sent out to fill four lit ><’ chests and put in charge ot serving the drinks. Next came David and his family - they were put to work too. Then, a surprise! Edenton Florist delivered a beautiful Atattiage were bridesmaids. Miss Cristy Altman was the flower girl. Keith Harrell, cousin of the bride, was the best man. David Sampson, brother of the groom and Earl Copeland, cousin of the bride were ushers. Mrs. Avis Lee was the mistress of ceremony and Mrs. Elizabeth Harrell was book registrar. A reception was held following the ceremony in the yard at the home of the bride. After a wedding trip to Nags Head, the couple will reside in Edenton. A lingerie shower was given by the mistress of ceremony on June 5. On May 6, Miss Cindy Parker and Mrs. Suzanne Parker entertained a sur prise Tupperware party at the home of Suzanne Parker. Mrs. MacEnulty, who composed the music for the first act of The Lost Colony, received critical acclaim for her original choral work “An American Requiem” corsage of red roses to me from my most thoughtful husband! I was thrilled! The Good Lord smiled on us for the weather was perfect - nice, cool breeze down by the water and the trees gave us shade from the rays of the sun. In the house, Bill’s wife, Sandy, and daughter, Lyn, were busily placing all the goodies on platters for the Hors d’oeuvre table and fixing the hot crab dip. Everything was ready by 2:30 P.M. - was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all. Sandy really knows her stuff! Paul’s wife, Cheryl and David’s wife, Edna, assisted by Sandy were getting things together for dinner later. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with our friends - we hadn’t seen some of them in 15 years! A musician and composer in France at the turn of the century, Gabriel Faure’ is known for his religious music as well as a large body of French art songs. including all the children - some were paddling the little wooden boat, others had the rubber boats - some were skiing, while those who had never been here before were taken on a small boat tour, which always in cludes a ride down Indian Creek. The dinner bell rang out loud and clear about 6:30 P.M. - Bar-B-Que, rolls, fried chicken, slaw, baked beans, Edna’s, potato salad and a relish tray. After all the activity, everyone was ready to eat. Following dinner, a beautiful Anniversary Cake was brought out -a gift from Paul, Cheryl and Treena. It was delicious!
