According to the National* Institute of Health, if tetracycline is given to a woman during her last trimester of pregnancy, or to an infant during the first three months of life, discoloration of the dentin of baby's teeth could occur. The resulting stains are then visible as soon as the baby teeth erupt. The sensitive period of tetracycline - induced staining of the permanent teeth occurs between the ages of 3 months and • years.
