Page 2-B Administrative Posts Fled Two top administrative positions have been filled at College of The Albemarle, according to an an nouncement today by Dr. J. Parker Chesson, Jr., president of the community college in Elizabeth City. Harriette M. Crump of Roanoke Rapids will assume the duties of director of resource development on September 15. Pamela I. Whitley, a local resident, will join the college’s administrative staff on October l in the capacity of assistant to the president. “We are pleased to have two such capable people join our staff,” Chesson said. “We are confident that their contributions will enhance COA’s commitment to fully serve the educational needs of area residents.” “Each brings a record of experience and achievement in her area of responsibility,” Chesson continued, “and both the college and the region it serves should realize added benefits from their com bined efforts.” In making his an nouncement, Chesson ex pressed his regret over the resignation of Walter R. Thames, Jr., who has served as the college’s director of resource development since August of 1979. Thames has ac cepted a similar position in his home state of Alabama with the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Miss Crump served as director of institutional development at Halifax Community College from 1976, until her recent resignation to accept the COA position. She also acted as HCC’s Affirmative Action and Title IX coordinator, and coordinated the college’s long-range planning program. She has been an active member of the North Carolina Council of Officers for Resource Development since 1976. Last year, she served as CORD’s vice president. She currently is a member-at-large of the organization’s executive committee. She was one of 15 interns chosen this year from 175 applicants in the nation to be selected to serve as a National Council for Resource Development Intern. She has also been involved in a number of community betterment activities in Northhampton and Halifax counties. Miss Crump received her bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in sociology from North Carolina State University. She earned her master of education degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chesson said Mrs. Whitley’s primary area of responsibility will be to act as liaison between the college and area businesses and industry. Through her contacts, a more accurate determination of educational and training needs can be made, he said, allowing more effective linkage between COA's programs and existing needs. She will also assist with the organizational im plementation of the recently established College of The Albemarle Foundation, Inc. Chesson said additional functions of her office will be the management of COA’s Affirmative Action program, and handling special projects for the college. Mrs. Whitley served as the Economic Development Administration planner for the Albemarle Regional S*. Planning and Development \ -Commission from 1977, until present.
