THE CHOWAN HERALD
Pride vs. Wisdom
By Apostle
William F. Coston
I saw Pride and Wisdom
walking side by side and
Wisdom said to
Pride...“ Where goeth
Thou?” And Pride said to
Wisdom...“l’m on my way
to Hell.” I Pride, dwell in the
hearts of simple men and
women. Cleverness is my
making, deceiving the
hearts of men and women. I
ring doors for simpletons,
and to every passer-by I
say...“ Come and take of my
wares.” Many buy my
wares and become fools and
understand not that death is
my kinsman. I lead by the
way of unrighteousness. All
that follow me make their
bed in Hell.
Wisdom said...“Oh Pride,
why art Thou so simple and
foolish, and thy heart fully
set to destroy the children of
men?” Why won’t Thou take
counsel of men and be wise?
Understanding is my kin
sman and...“l Wisdom,
dwell with prudent children
of men.” I lead the wise in
the paths of righteousness. I
put wise sayings in the
mouths of the foolish. I
condemn poverty. I teach
men the ways of God. I lead
men out of poverty by the
path of righteousness. I
bring men into the
knowledge of the most
high. Death and
destruction lies not before
me. My paths are ways of
pleasantness, long life and
abundance. All my ways
lead to Heaven, because my
maker is God.
“Oh, Pride, Thou cursed
child of Satan... Cursed
forevermore... Doomed to
the pits of Hell to rise no
more.” Oh, Thou cursed
child of poverty, that teaches
men to hate one another,
that treats the blind as
though they have no eyes;
never letting them see the
light. Thou obstructor of
justice... Punisher of the
truth...“Oh, subtile you,
Thou child of Satan, made to
be destroyed.” Though
subtilty is Thou making, yet
-thy way a-are-not perfect
before God. All thy ways are
in the heart of the earth.
“Oh foolish Pride, who
has bewitched thee, so that
Thou cannot obey the
truth?” Thy ways are forver
before God, as ways of
perverseness and stumbling
blocks for the children of
men.
Oh Pride, Thou dwelleth
in the house of rich men,
making their hearts swell
out of proportion, causing j
their head to jump time and J
call God a liar, and destroy ,
themselves through Thou
aid before their time. Wise
men do not partake of thee
Oh Pride; they forsake the
foolish and live forever
more.
Oh Pride, Thou deceiver
of mankind, that
camouflages their path, sets
traps for the simple and
calls everyone that goes
right on his way. Thou
saith...“ Come and partake
of me and reign as Kings
and Queens.” And they
know not that death and

Championship Match Held
By Bob Kelly
In a very close match
Sunday afternoon, Larry
Hughes defeated Scott
Privott to win his first club
championship match play.
Larry was six holes up
after the first 18 mainly
because of a fine 69; but
Scott would not give up,
coming back to two holes
down with three to go.
However on number 16,
Scott ran out of cigarettes
and bogeyed the hole. Larry
two-putted for par to win his
only club championship, a
very prestigious event.
Larry joins Randy
Crabtree, medal club
champion, as first time club
cnampion. Both will be very
worthy champions and will
represent our club well in
the Tournament of
Champions in Havelock,
next June.
In the first flight Hood
Ellis defeated Allen
Downum, Sr., three up with
two to go. Warner Perry
defeated Hiram Weeks to
win the second flight and
Jim Darnell defeated
Ronnie Rountree to win the
third flight.
Congratulations to all the
winners. Even though the
fields were small in this
year’s club championship,
competition was the best it
has ever been. This speaks
well of the playing ability of
our golfers.
