Letters To The Editor v j ' On Nov. 23 the N. C. Jaycee Burn Center at N. C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill will be formally dedicated. We believe this occasion represents an important milestone in the history of health care in this state and is something in" which V all North Carolinians can take pride. As one of only 14 com* prehensive burn care\ facilities in the country the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center will offer the very latest in medical treatment to North who are severely burned. It will have the most i modern and sophisticated therapy equipment and will be staffed by highly trained, experienced' specialists to give burn victims the best possible chance for com plete recovery and rehabilitation. \ North Carolinians can be proud that this burn center will be among the world’s leaders in burn-related research and education. The discoveries that are made here and the health professionals who train here will serve to improve the quality of burn care throughout the world. Certainly, these are things to be proud of. But perhaps most im portant on this occasion, North Carolinians can be proud of themselves. They recognized the need for a first-class bum center in North Carolina, and they set out to do something about it. People irt. every county in this state have given freely of their time and talents and have dug deep into their own pockets to ensure that their burn center would be one of the finest in thp world. The dedication land- unwavering enthusiasm on the part of so many has been truly remarkable, Indeed, this noble effort brought out the very best in North Carolinians: their com passion and concern for each [ other, ttfftr, selfishhesSTfnd ’ tlfeir self reliant spirit. t The dedication of the N.C. Jaycee Bum Center this Sunday is an occasioii, that thousands of North Carolinians can celebrate with a sense \of ex traordinaryv ac complishment. And because of their efforts, the txirn center is something that generations of North Carolinians can look to with pride. We are proud to be part of this very special un dertaking. And we pledge that the N.C. Jaycee Bum Center will be operated in a way that best serves those for whom and by whom it has been built - the people of North Carolina. Sincerely, Eric B. Munson Executive Director N.C. Memorial Hospital Roger Salisbury, M.D. Medical Director N.C. Jaycee Bum Center It is a pleasure to be a United States citizen. Even though we are frustrated by bureaucracy, and' the citizens are exasperated by inflation, hardship and government originated misfortune, we can jlook forward to future elections to replace the people in office in hopes that situations will improve. Tkis the voters showed their need and conqem, by their spirited attendance at the polls. However, the referendum concerning judges requirements, whether to, or nit to be lawyers, was of importance enough to be placed on the ballot, but no , emphasis was exercised to J make the voter aware of 5 how critical the outcome! might become. Thp need for ' better government was their prime concern, and the referendum was a strong unrecognised part of it. The State of Nprth Carolina has removed another one of the “People’s Rights'’ by mixing it into a panel' of confusing final decisidns The voters have j beei< misled by a co- < incidental “side effect’’ of the (Section process. Justice administered by rfe ■- i : .Lr '•* • *'. professional patterns leaves little chance for the unfairly accused. Professional people are, usually, educated machines, not necessarily accustomed to mercifully dealing with the compassionate phase of true Justice. Attorneys have led the people to believe every judge had to be, first, a lawyer. This misconception kept the lawyers and judges in the same syndicate. The state’s judges become judge and jury and they are almost untouchable, not subject to reprimand for misconduct, miscarriage of justice or anything else. If a judge should overstep the sphere of responsibility to society; the possibility of his replaced by someone who would exer cise less v mechanical prejudice, - and more thoughtful sensibility, would bring the court system much eloper to true justice than it nityy approach now. Bill Rooks Wilmington Cavaliers Best ENC All-Stars RICHMOND, Va. - The underdog Calvaliers were led .by strong safety Zeke Harris with two in terceptions and linebacker Benny Spiller with one to slip past the Edenton based team, 7-6. The first score of the game came in the first quarter with split end John Coston on the receiving end of a ten yard pass from Anthony Downing, the point after fail. What can be described as a defensive battle, both teams went scoreless after that point until late in the third quarter, when a Harris interception and a 32 yard return set-up what was to be the final score of the day. Tad Berman scored on a one yard run, point after by Mike Nash was good. —The All-Stars finish -thw season with a 7-4 overall record and a 7-2 conference mark.
