Chowan • Washington Counties
The North Carolina Department
of Transportation, Division of High
ways, has approved the location
and design for the proposed
replacement of the existing bridge
on NC 32 over the Albemarle Sound.
This is the same project which was
presented at a Public Hearing on
April 23, 19(0 in the Skinnersvllle
Community Center, Skinnersvllle,
North Carolina.
The approved location of the
replacement bridge will be ap
proximately 230 feet between
centerlines easterly of the existing
structure. The project will begin
approximately 700 feet south of the
existing shore line and extend
approximately 1000 teet north of the
existing shoreline. Traffic will be
maintained along existing NC 32
and over the existing bridge during
the construction period.
The approved design will provide
for two 12 foot travel lanes plus 4
foot shoulder making a 32 foot clear
width on the bridge deck. The
overland approach sections will be
two 12 foot travel lanes plus 14 foot
shoulders. Beginning at water edge
the new structure will rise in grade
to a minimum deck level of 20 feet
above mean high water. This will
provide approximately 2 feet
greater clearance above mean high
water than the existing structure
'provides. A fixed high level span
will be constructed over the
navigation channel. The horizontal
navigational clearance will be 120
feet and the vertical navigational
clearance will be 65 teet.
The Environmental Impact
Statement (Final Negative
Declaration) has been approved by
the N. C. Division of Highways and
the Federal Highway Ad
ministration. Copies are available
for review and copying in the
Planning and Research Library,
Highway Building, Raleigh and the
First Highway Division Office,
Ahoskie, North Carolina.

Southeastern Section
Trading was limited but a
few sales were reported on
1981 crop peanuts. Weather
continued to be of primary
concern as temperatures
were high with very little
precipitation reported
around the Southeast. The
peanut crop was rated by
the Crop Reporting Service
as good to excellent in
Alabama and fair to mostly
good in .Georgia as of July
12. Sales on 1981 crop
peanuts were for shelled
runner type with too few
sales to quote.
Virginia-North Carolina
Section Trading was slow
with too few sales reported
to establish a market. Crop
conditions were mostly good
throughout the peanut belt
with some light rains during
the week. Offerings of old
crop peanuts were mostly

resales. There were a few
sales on 1981 crop peanuts
during the current week at
the following levels. Sales
