Page 8-A Miss Patel Is Recipient Sunita Patel of Edenton will receive a Presidential Scholarship from Mount Olive College during the 1981-82 academic year. Sunita is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Patel, North Broad Street, Edenton, and will enter Mount Olive College in the fall as a freshman following graduation from Immanuel Christian School. Students ranking in the top 10 per cent of their graduating senior class qualify for Presidential Scholarships. The award is in an amount up to $1,500, payable $750 per academic year. Presidential Scholars participate in the Academic Honors program throughout the school year. The program is designed to provide thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating presentations by oustanding scholars and to create a campus at mosphere of academic excellence. Mount Olive College is a fully-accredited, co educational liberal arts junior college, founded in 1951 by the N. C. State Convention of Original Free Will Baptists. Computer Users Meet The regular monthly meeting of the Albemarle Area Computer Users Group was held Tuesday, July 14 at Mrs. Boswell's Restaurant. Twenty-two members and their guest were present. The meeting was conducted by President Mary Lou Everett of First Colony Farms. Plans were completed for the Family Day Pig Picking at Coquina Beach in Nags Head on July 25. All members are invited to attend with their families and any prospective members. Please contact Mary Lou Everett at 797- 4371 by July 24 if you plan to attend. Ed Logan was the guest speaker for the evening. Mr. Logan is the Systems Engineering Manager for IBM Corporation out of Greenville. He presented a program on “How to be a Winner”. In his program he gave the things necessary to spell success. They were “Sense of direction”, “Understanding”, "Courage”, “Charity”, “Esteem”, “Self confidence” and “Self acceptance.” Grant Is Awarded Integrated Energy Systems of Chapel Hill has been awarded a federal grant to install their automated wood burning system in two North Carolina schools. The funds come from the Department of Energy as part of a program to encourage small-scale renewable energy projects. IES is a group of ar chitects, engineers, and planners specializing in energy conservation and applications of alternate energy systems. Werner Martin, the inventor of the wood burning system has directed the testing and evelopment efforts for the past year at the IES research facility and at the U. S. Environemental Protection Agency. The test results show that the burner is over 85 per cent efficient and that the air p '' Mon is comparable to an irner. IES is current toking for two schools ...» are interested in trying out the burner. The federal funds will pay for the installation and for fuel during testing. The equipment will remain at the school after the tests are complete. A patent application has been submitted and the company hopes that the burner system will soon be commercially available.
