Page 8-A The Bandon Notebook: Prayer, Most Powerful Force In Today’s World By Maggie B. HI, NEIGHBORS! Do you realize that happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself? Make someone happy today! This Lord’s Day dawned bright and beautiful! Waters of the mighty Chowan were still and sparkled with brillance as the sun caressed its surface; the clean, fragrant air was delightful to the senses and filled with sounds of joy - birds singing, seagulls calling, laughter of children! As one looked up into the blue sky with billowing white clouds slowly sailing by, a silent prayer of thanksgiving for the countless blessings of our Creator drifted toward Heaven. A perfect day for everyone to enter the church of their choice to recharge their spiritual batteries! Our dear friend, James Bost, has just returned home following bladder surgery. Jim has never owned property at Arrowhead Beach but was and is a frequent visitor. He loves Bandon Chapel - says in the Chapel “he feels close to God” In 1972 he donated our beautiful Hammond organ “to the Glory of God”. Pray that his surgery is successful. Cards are always appreciated. His address is: Rt. 1- Box 614, Clarksville, Va., 23927, Ben Hirschberger, uncle of Lorraine Turbyfill, is hospitalized at Massillon City Hospital, Massillon, Ohio and needs your prayers; I’m happy to report that Janie Harrell, wife of Pastor Bob, is out ot the complete auditorium of the church. The Men’s Fellowship will appreciate the participation of the public. Drive carefully and enjoy all of 1981. the hospital and doing fine; Trudy Lapham was at church Sunday looking “fit as a fiddle” - says she’s feeling good following her recent surgery; please remember Walter Taylor; Margaret Smithson; Robin Adcock; Dan Darden; Bill Perry; Mary Gardner; our Guardian Angel, Hilda Wisner; Len Koraska; Helen Headen; Jeanne Church; our Nation, its leaders and its people; our missionnaries and our Pastor, Rev. Robert S. Harrell and his family. Also added to our prayer list is Pauline Johnson confined to Albemarle Hospital because of a broken hip, and Musa West of Franklin, sister of Olga Taylor is confined to Chowan Hospital. “Commitment in Wor ship”, Deut. 12:5-12; 14:27- 29, was the subject for our adults, skillfully taught by Stan Turbyfill. Aim was that adult Christians re-examine their giving and establish a regular pattern of financial worship. “Happy Birthday” was sung by all in honor of Grover Johnson as he placed his contribution in our Birthday Bank. THE CHOWAN HERALD At bur Worship Service, the Shepherd of Bandon’s Flock, Pastor Robert S. Harrell, went down into the congregation to personally welcome all our visitors, first timers and our weekenders with whom he was not familiar. His powerful and inpsiring message was “Am I My Brother’s Keeper”, Gen. 4:1-16. Brief resume follows: Since man was first created upon this planet there must have many questions he could have CO A Receives Grant Approval College of the Albemarle has received approval of a $201,000 Title 111 grant application from the U. S. Department of Education. The funds, which are awarded under the Federal Strengthening Developing Institutions Program, will be used by the college from October, 1981, through September 1982. Harriette Crump, director of resource development, said COA will extend its growth in three areas during the grant period. “The needs emerged from a planning study which the college has conducted this year,” she said. The study, which is still in progress, was made possible by a $158,000 Title 111 grant last year. Priorities established by the self-assessment include the improvement of ad ministration and management through a management information system, the implementation of a developmental education program, and strengthening the college’s staff development program. Plans are underway to implement a computer based MIS at the college. Grant funds will be used to purchase the necessary equipment, according to Crump. She said the new system will greatly improve the availability and han asked God but it is in teresting to note that the first question asked was “Am I my brother’s, keeper”. Why did Cain kill Able? He was: 1) Jealous. No poison is worse than jealousy; 2) Intolerant and ignorant: The world needs the products of both men - product and meat - not just vegetables; 3; Selfish: He was saying “my interests come first and they must be served at any cost. There was no sense of love or dling of information which will result in better service for students and increase the school’s capabilities for more efficient management. COA’s commitment to improve the chance of success for its educationally disadvantaged students also will continue. A Develop mental Education Depart ment, formed during last year’s planning, will be fully staffed and operational this year. “The college’s isolated location and low personnel turnover result in faculty and staff who are distant Aces Begin Practice The John A. The way should be understanding, patience and love. Don’t build walls of separation between you and your fellowman. Develop tolerance -- it’s one of the greatest at tributes for building human relationships. One of the things about maturity is to be able to tolerate different ideas and different people. There is much hurt caused by ignorance. from the exciting developents in their fields, and whose skills need sharpening,” Crump said. She explained that the staff development program encourages the college’s full-time employees to participate in activities that relate to their areas of concern, allowing them opportunity to keep updated on new developments in their disciplines. “Strengthening our personnel is an investment in the long-term viability and strength of the college,” she concluded. teams must have had a medical examination and parent consent form completed and returned to the school before players are allowed to practice. In addition all players must have a copy of their birth certificate on file at the school before they can become eligible to play. The Aces will host Elizabeth City in their opening game of the 1981 season September 4 at 8 P.M. on Hicks Field. Be selfless. A selfless person has the courage to consider the needs and feelings of others. He is kind, considerate and compassionate to these needs. He has love in his heart. Superficial things which divide us are not that important. Don’t think of what divides us but what we have in common. We must learn to live together in love and fellowship - or - we will perish together. Am I my brother’s keeper? You’d better believe it. Bobbie Jean Holt’s beautiful voice rang out loud and clear as she sang the meaningful words of “He’s Only A Prayer Away”. She was ac companied by Gil Holt at the piano.
