Thursday, August (>, 1981 The Bandon Notebook: Note - August Only By Maggie B. HI, NEIGHBORS! The month of August is the only month with no holidays! So, we make our own celebrations. My husband and I celebrated our wed ding anniversary on August 2nd. Two lovely but simple wedding ceremonies were performed by Pastor Bob at Bandon Chapel Thursday - one at 2:30 P.M., the other a candlelight service at 7:30 P.M. It has been said that getting married can be compared to signing a contract to build a home. It is only the beginning. The rest of the work follows. The marriage ceremony is the first step; it is the com mencement. The real building takes time and intelligence and hard work. Most people will admit everything in life that is worthwhile requires sacrifice and patient effort - Death Claims Mr. White SARASOTA, Fla. - Jim W. White, 71, of 3851 Camino Real, died Friday in Sarasota Memorial Hospital. A native of Chowan County, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Beulah Griffin White. He was a retired owner of an interior decorating studio and a World War II veteran. He was a member of Edenton Baptist Church, Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, former officer of the Exchange Club and former member of Sarasota Bay Country Club. That just isn’t so. Yet, marriage is perhaps the most worth while venture any two people will ever enter into, so work at making marriage successful. These excerpts from “Take Time to be Courteous”, author unknown, will help a great deal: “Courtesy is the science of respecting the other per son’s point of view, being genuinely interested in his ideas and desires, being sympathetic, un derstanding, patient ... It’s giving honest sincere ap preciation, praising, en couraging, and ... being a ‘good listener’. “Courtesy is ... a tender look, a kindly word, a gentle tone, a simple kindness. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. J. H. Newbold of Hertford; five nieces and one nephew. Graveside services were held Tuesday at 2 P.M. in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Dr. John Allen officiating. Williford - Barham Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements. Threading a needle will be easier if you apply a bit of hair spray or spray starch to the end of the thread. The thread will stiffen just enough to ease the job of finding the needle’s eve. It’s being habitually polite, aware, friendly, sociable,! neighborly, respectful and sincere. It’s the practical application of the Golden Rule, it’s service above self, the added wrapping, the unexpected extra, the thank you, the hurry back, the good luck, the lingering smile. It’s an art, a science, and a philosophy, all rolled into one. So, take time to be courteous!” On this Lord’s Day, a haze covered the early morning sun - but - soon “Ole Man Sunshine” broke through the clouds in a blaze of glory causing the waters of the mighty Chowan to sparkle and dance; highlighting the lush green of the well manicured lawns freshened by Saturday’s rain. As one filled the lungs with clean, fresh air and the soul with the beauty of nature, a sense of thanksgiving filled one’s being. A perfect day to enter the church of your choice to thank our Creator for His countless blessings. The fine folk gathered for Sunday School at Bandon Chapel were en thusiastically welcomed by Supt. Meta Mason, especially our first timers. She announced that the BCWG will meet at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday in Fellowship Hall. All ladies in the community are invited to join in the fun and fellowship. ■ tiwbp wii™oM I THEATRE EPEHTON, N. ~ _ For Movie Info I ■ DIAL 482-2312 or 793-2185- ANYTIME! | BA story of two firienda «■ 1 rho didn't know they were V I (opposed to be enemies A I ! Harrell and his family. “The Basis of Covenant Renewal”, Deut. 29:2-15, was the topic for our adults skillfully taught by Stan Turbyfill. Aim was to en courage the class to list several specific ways to express their renewed relationship to God. —O — Mark Wayne Nixon dedicated to God: Mark Wayne Nixon was baptised by Pastor Bob in a beautiful and impressive ceremony as his parents, Robert and Grace Nixon, dedicated their baby to God. His God parents, Roger Graham and Doris Nixon participated in the ceremony. The baby’s grandparents, family and friends were all present for this very significant oc casion. As they all stood together, they also re dedicated themselves to God - “As we dedicate this child to God, we also dedicate ourselves”. At our Worship Service, the Shepherd of Bandon’s flock, Rev. Robert S. Harrell, brought a most interesting and inspiring message entitled “Build on the Rock”, Matt. 7: 24-27. Geo. Buttrick tells us that “Every thought is like a piece of timber in our house of life, every habit like a beam, every imagination like a window, well or badly placed”. Jesus was a carpenter. He was familiar with the construction business. He spoke with autorhity because of who He was. The people understood Him because He spoke in terms with which they were familiar. Jesus never failed to claim authority and the life He lived backed up what He said. Jesus is the architect - He is the Way, the Truth and the Life - no one comes to the Father except by Him. He has a purpose for every life. Only on His truth can men and nations stand. Day by day the super structure of life is built. Foolish men build according to the standards of the world. The wise man builds according to Jesus Christ - on the stones of character, purity, gentleness, courage, sincerity, benevolence, trust Announcing New Office Hours C. Clement Lucus, Jr. M.D .
