Walter Hagen State Golf Cham pionship on September 6 and 7. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the tournament will take place at Bay Tree Plan tation in north Myrtle Beach, S.C. The North Carolina and South Carolina state championships will take place simultaneously on the 54-hole course. To qualify, the com petitors first have to win JLheir respective local tournaments. Death Claims Mrs. Smith, 85 Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Mary Ann Ashley Smith, Route 3, Eden ton. The services were held at 4 P. M. in Williford - Barham Funeral Home with Mr. Roy Long officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery. Mrs. Smith, 85, died August 29 in Chowan Hospital. She was retired from Edenton Cotton Mills. Mrs. Smith was a native of Chowan County, born February 13, 1896, daughter of the late John and Mary Ann Halsey Ashley. She was the widow of David M. Smith. Surviving is a son, David L. Smith of Edenton; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia S. Bembridge, also of Eden ton; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Twiddy of Edenton; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was a member of Kingdom’s Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Pallbearers were: Thomas J. Baker, Spencer Belangia, William E. Smith, William Bembridge, Kenneth Watson and Roy Watson, Jr. Computer Group The Albemarle Computer Users Group welcomes their members back from summer vacations. Upon further investigation, they found that a large branch had fallen out of a hickory tree in their backyard and landed on top of their utility house. The branch crushed in the utility house and also severely bent a freezer that was inside. The accident occurred at the Wale’s trailer in Arrowhead Beach. Mrs. Dail Taken In Death Iris Jean Leary Dail, 46, of Virginia Beach, died Monday in a Norfolk Hospital. A native of Edenton she was the daughter of Mrs. William Kader Davis of Edenton and the step daughter of Mr. Davis. She was retired from the Virginia Beach School System and was a member of the Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Surviving besides her mother and step-father are a son, Billy Dail, Jr., of Virginia Beach; two sisters: Mrs. Hazel L.
