and Real Estate, their local
sponsor, and the Albemarle
area in the tournament.

the tournament will take
place at Bay Tree Plan
tation in north Myrtle
Beach, S.C. The North
Carolina and South Carolina
state championships will
take place simultaneously
on the 54-hole course.

petitors first have to win

The voters of the Town will be voting for a Mayor, Treasurer, one Councilman
at-large and Councilman for the third and fourth wards.
Persons may register at the Election Office on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday
from 9*oo A.M. until IsOO P.M., or at the Tax Office on Tuesday end Thursday
from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. They may also register at the home of the
Registrars or Judges or with any member of the Board of Elections by
appointment ONLY.
Any person who has been a resident of Chowan County for 30 days is eligible to
register and rots. He must be 18 years of ago. Any person who bee moved from
one precinct to another must transfer to the precinct in which he now liras.
Deadline for transfer is Monday, October sth at 5:00 P.M.

They are the Men’s Scratch
Division, the Women’s

Division.
Kelly, Bass, Bass, and
Crabtree, who are in the
Men’s Scratch Division,
have already won the local
tournament in Elizabeth
City and are now ready for
state competition.

Mrs. Smith, 85
Funeral services were
held Tuesday for Mrs. Mary
Ann Ashley Smith, Route 3,
Eden ton. The services
were held at 4 P. M. in
Williford - Barham Funeral
Home with Mr. Roy Long
officiating.
Burial was in the family
cemetery.
Mrs. Smith, 85, died
August 29 in Chowan
Hospital. She was retired
from Edenton Cotton Mills.
Mrs. Smith was a native of
Chowan County, born
February 13, 1896, daughter
of the late John and Mary
Ann Halsey Ashley. She was
the widow of David M.
Smith.
Surviving is a son, David
L. Smith of Edenton; a
daughter, Mrs. Virginia S.
Bembridge, also of Eden
ton; a sister, Mrs. Bessie
Twiddy of Edenton; 15
grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was a member
of Kingdom’s Hall of
Jehovah’s Witnesses.

TREE LIMB DESTROYS PROPERTY Roy Wales and
his wife, Laylond, were awakened at Approximately 7:45
A.M. on August 27 by a loud cracking noise. Upon further
investigation, they found that a large branch had fallen out
of a hickory tree in their backyard and landed on top of their
utility house. The branch crushed in the utility house and
also severely bent a freezer that was inside. The accident
occurred at the Wale’s trailer in Arrowhead Beach.
Mrs. Dail Taken In Death
Iris Jean Leary Dail, 46, of
Virginia Beach, died
Monday in a Norfolk
Hospital.
A native of Edenton she
was the daughter of Mrs.
William Kader Davis of
Edenton and the step
daughter of Mr. Davis. She
was retired from the
Virginia Beach School
System and was a member
of the Eastminster
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving besides her
mother and step-father are
a son, Billy Dail, Jr., of
Virginia Beach; two sisters:
Mrs. Hazel L. Severanze of
Norfolk, and Mrs. Maizel
Dunlow of Edenton; two
brothers; Ike Davis of
Edenton; and Sandy Davis
of Elizabeth City.

' Herman Cullipher, 73, died
Sunday in Roanoke-Chowan
Hospital in Ahoskie.
A native of Bertie County,
he was the husband of Mrs.
Marion Lawrence Thomas
Cullipher. He was a retired
farmer and a member of
Bethany Baptist Church.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Joyce Bracy
of Ahoskie; two sons,
Charlie Henry Cullipher of
Colerain; and Gene Ray
Cullipher of Washington; a
step-daughter, Mrs. Rhonda
Asbell of Raleigh; a step
