Just before a new book she has written is published she breaks a bone, ind each of her books has proven successful. When asked if she thought this was an omen to her success she replied, “Surely it doesn’t have any con nection. The idea for her latest book “Grandmother Poppy and the Funny-Looking Bird” came about when her granddaughters Angela, age 11 and Alyson, age 9 asked her to write a book about birds when she was visiting them. They requested this since she had written one for her grandson, Todd about his moving ordeal. It is a story about Mrs. Allred’s Grandmother Poppy and a red bird who isn’t allowed to share the birdfeeder with the other birds because he doesn’t have a crest on his head. The other birds reject him.
