THE CHOWAN HERALD JM I < David Elliott Hollowell Mr. Hollowell Is Graduate David Elliott Hollowell, graduated in May from Wake Forest University School of Law, in Winston- Salem. He was a staff member of the Wake Forest Law Review and graduated cum laude. He has joined the law firm, Taylor, Warren, Kerr and Walker in Goldsboro. Hollowell was a 1972 graduate of John A. Holmes High School. He also was a graduate of N. C. State University, receiving a BA degree in politics with a concentration in criminal justice. He was a dean’s list student and a member of Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Pi Signa Alpha, the national political science honor society. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Hollowell, West Queen Street, Eden ton. His maternal grand parents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Proctor Elliott, Route 4, Hertford and his paternal grandparents the late Mr. and Mrs. Baker Melvin Hollowell, Sr. of Tyner. Church Dinner Plans Underway The Free Will Baptists of Washington, Tyrrell, Martin, Pasquotank, and Chowan counties will meet tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 o’clock at the Mount Tabor FWB Church near Creswell to plan the annual church dinner for Mount Olive College. The dinner is one of 17 held annually throughout Eastern North Carolina on behalf of Mount Olive College. Each church is requested to appoint a Mount Olive College Committee to attend this meeting at which ad ditional information will be provided and the date and place of the dinner decided. Mount Olive College is a two-year liberal arts college which is sponsored by the N.C. State Convention of Original Free Will Baptists. Two Give Report On Girls State The Edward G. Bond Unit 40 of the American Legion Auxiliary, had as their guest on September 1, Connie Lane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Lane of Tyner and Laura Underkofler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Underkofler of Edenton. Miss Lane and Miss Underkofler gave reports of their activities and ex periences at Girls State. Girls State was held in June at the University of N. C. at Greensboro, with over 300 girls from the state par ticipating. The purpose of Girls State is to provide citizenship training for girls of high school age, to afford them an opportunity to live together as self governing citizens, to inform them about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship, in order that they may un derstand and participate in the functioning of their government, and to help them grasp the meaning of some of the responsibilities which they must assume when they become adults. This program is open to all girls in their junior year of high school who meet the requirements and qualifications of the American Legion Auxiliary. The## include leadership, chaflfter and honesty, schoUNhip, cooperative ness, community par ticipation and service. Page 5-B
