Democrats To Meet The next meeting of the Chowan County Democratic Executive Committee, will be held Tuesday at 7 P. M. in the fourth Floor Conference Room in the County Office Building. The agenda includes making decision on the goals of the county party and plans to meet those goals. In addition, the committee will be making a decision on the District I fundraiser suggested by the Pasquotank Chairman. “Please invite, encourage and bring other Democrats from your precincts to our meeting,” stated Mrs. Lueta Sellers, county party chairman. “To have a successful party in Chowan County we need people involved in our work.” The crossbow was used in China as early as 200 B.C. Protecting Against Football Iryuries It’s that time of year again, the annual fall rites of the American male. The game of running, jumping, tackling, falling, bruises, cuts, sprains, pains - collectively known as football is played everywhere by everybody from “peewees” to “pros”. While most of the injuries aren’t serious there are some things you can do to help protect yourself and make your participation in the game more enjoyable. A thorough physical examination is a must before preparing to go out for football to make sure there is no physical con dition that could prove harmful. This is to protect your health. Homecoming Observance The members of Macedonia Baptist Church will be celebrating their annual Homecoming Sunday. Former pastor, members, and friends are invited. Sunday School will be at 10 A. M. and worship at 11 A. M. The pastor, Rev. Charles C. Harris, will bring the message; “What Is A Homecoming?” Dinner on the grounds at 12:30 P. M. followed by a song service at 2 P. M. featuring The Singing Laymen, of Askewville, will conclude the activities. Second, proper physical conditioning, getting in shape, hardens the body and allows you to play longer without tiring, helping to prevent injury. Coaches and team physicians agree that many injuries occur when a player is tiring and less alert. A minimum of three weeks exercising and conditioning is recom mended prior to the first game of the season. Third, precautions should be taken against the ex treme heat of the early days of practice, usually during the “dog days” of August. Many teams now schedule their hot weather workouts in the early morning and late afternoon to avoid the hottest time of the day. Water should always be available during these sessions because it is necessary to replace the body fluids lost through sweating. Salt is also im portant to replace, either through salt tablets or by Card Os Thanks The family of Aileen Bunch express their gratitude to their many friends for words of comfort, visits, prayers, cards and food during her hospitalization and death. Thank you, doctors and nurses at the Chowan Hospital for you excellent care for her comfort. God bless each of you. nc Page 7-A salting food heavily during meals. One of the most important reasons these precautions are necessary is to prevent heat stroke which can be extremely dangerous. Heat stroke occurs when the body’s cooling mechanism, the evaporation of seat from the skin, ceases to function. When this occurs, the body temperature can rise as much as 7.4 degrees (from a normal of 98.6 to 106) in twenty minutes and can cause kidney, liver, or brain damage.
