Thursday, October 1, 1981 Dr. Leo Jenkins To Address Executive’s Day Banquet, Oct. 2 Dr. Leo W. Jenkins, a Special Assistant to the : Governor, will be the speaker during Elizabeth City State University’s First Annual : Business and Industry - Executive’s Day Banquet - (Corporate Dinner), set for Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30P. M., ‘ in the Bedell Cafeteria. Sponsored, in cooperation with the College and Industry Cluster, the Corporate Dinner seeks to raise funds in support of ECSU’s “Blue Chip Scholarship Program.” Dr. Jenkins, Chancellor- Emeritus of East Carolina University (ECU), is widely known for his past leadership of ECU, from 1960 through 1978, which impacted significantly on educational, economic, and social developments in eastern North Carolina. Recipient, in 1977, of the North Carolina Public Service Award, he is a member of numerous boards and commissions. Chancellor Marion D. Thorpe stated, “We are most pleased that this dynamic leader, . Death Claims Mrs. Bagley Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Byrum Bagley, 65, of i Norfolk, Virginia, died i Saturday in a Norfolk Hospital. A native of Chowan County she was the wife of William L. “Bill” Bagley. Tyler, Chancellor Thorpe has sent invitations to over 250 business executives and supporters of ’ECfeU. His counterpart, representing industry, is Brooks Whitehurst, Special Projects Manager, Texasgulf, Inc. The ECSU College and Industry Cluster includes, among others, such firms as Texasgulf, IBM, Western Electric, Exxon, VEPCO, Wachovia IJank and . ,Copii>aAy, Carolina Telephone and Telegraph,- ,ARA Tfie Daily Advance, Noel Coltrane Architects, City of Elizabeth City, Mid-Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Co., and People's Savings and Loan Association. The Friday evening Corporate Dinner follows the Friday morning October Cluster Meeting in the Ridley University Center, and the Thursday Annual Career Day Program. In addition, the corporate executives have also been invited by Chancellor Thorpe to be his special guests at the Saturday evening home football game between ECSU and Hampton Institute.
