By identifying strengths and weaknesses of each participating agency, the county will hopefully be better prepared to handle a true'disaster situation. Thursday morning’s mock drill consisted of a vehicle accident involving 21 victims. The injuries ranged from minor cuts and bruises to dead-on-arrivals at Chowan Hospital. The “victims” were hospital employees who proved to be excellent actors and actresses. t The wreck scene was set up by Carroll Smith of Northside Auto. Albemarle Motor Company, George Chevrolet, and Hoke Motor Company provided the wrecked cars. The THE CHOWAN HERALD emergency call to the Rescue Squad was phoned from the home of Mrs. Helen Overton. County agencies par ticipating in the drill were Chowan Hospital, Chowan County Rescue Squad Units 1,2, and 3), Edenton Fire Department, Chowan County Sheriff’s Department, and the Edenton Police Department. WCDJ and WBXB radio stations helped to free the citizens of Chowan County from alarm by broadcasting that the wreck was just a mock disaster drill. This week, members from each participating agency will meet at Chowan Hospital to critique the overall disaster preparedness of the county.
