Page 8-B Boy Scout Fishing Tournament One hundred sixty-seven Boy Scouts registered to fish in the fourth annual Albemarle Boy Scout Fishing Tournament held at the KOA Kampground, Rodanthe, September 18-20. The event was hosted by the Chicamacomico Boy Scout troop 179. Some of the scouts brought their families, and some Cub Scout troops also attended. The scouts caught 423 fish of nine different species totaling 250 pounds, ac cording to Russ Privett, the chief judge for the tour nament. Troop 172 of Rocky Hock took most of the trophies. Kenny White of troop 172 caught the largest fish of the tournament, a 22 ‘/ 4 pound trout. Raymond Phillip of troop 172 caught the most fish of the tournament, and troops 172 and 168 tied in catching the most fish in their respective patrols. A flip of the coin decided which troop took home the trophy and troop 172 once again took the honors. Scott Coleman of Cub Scout Pack 505 of Elizabeth City caught the largest and the most fish for the Cub Scouts. The Chicamacomico scouts served breakfast to more than 180 scouts. Chief chef Frank Lorenzo and his crew of cooks consisting of: the scouts, Russ Privett, Jim Shimpach cracked many eggs beginning at 5 A.M. Judges in the tournament responsible for setting up beach markers, measuring and weighing fish were: Russ Privett, Claud Howard, Larry Midgett, Cliver Webber, Jim Shimpach, and Dennis Burgess. A fish fry, with steamed crabs and clams, was provided Saturday night by the host scout troop with Francis Jackson, Albemarle Boy Scout official, and Claud Howard doing most of the cooking and serving. Transportation 6n the beach, between fishing stations and the base camp, was provided by Richie Austin, Carroll Midgett, Frank Jakobs, and Ellis Pugh. Special thanks, according to the Chicamacomico hosts, go to Mr. and Mrs. John Berry for allowing the scouts to use the KOA Kampground and its facilities; to Emily and Jim Landrum for donating eggs; and to Russ Privett for serving as chief judge and making food arrangements. Chicamacomico Scout Master Johnny Hooper was very pleased with all the business donations which not only provided the trophies and prizes but also most of the food served during the tournament. “Almost every local business that we visited,” said Hooper, “was glad to give.” A very professional touch was added to the tour nament this year. A writer and photographer from Boys’s Life Magazine, published monthly by the Boy Scouts of America, covered the scouting event; quite a boost with which to begin the scouting year. CRC Proposes Regulations The ability of many coastal area farmers to develop and manage their land for farming and forestry could be adversely affected by regulations proposed by the Coastal Resources Commission, the president of the N. C. Farm Bureau Federation has charged. According to John Sledge, the regulations, proposed under the Coastal Area Management Act, concern procedures for nominating “areas of environmental concern” and ‘‘standards for coastal complex natural areas.” Sledge said the specific change being proposed that is of concern to farmers is that those “areas of en vironmental concern” which are declared “coastal complex natural areas” will no longer have to be in an Continued On Page 9-6 It’s Halloween, get MONSTER PRICES EFFECTIVE THRU SAT., OCT. 31 AT A&P IN EDENTON —- ' IT ITEMS OFFERED FOR SALE NOT AVAILABLE TO </ r aA ' FOR TRICK OR TREATERS! v .
