Page 6-A Bandon Notebook: Having A Relaxed Attitude Throughout Daily Life By Maggie B. HI, NEIGHBORS! Indian Summer is here • mild, warm, hazy days following the first frosts of autumn! As I look out over the mighty Chowan, its waters are serene; gulls are swooping high and low; a family of ducks are honking, waiting for bread to be thrown to them and a man and his little boy are out in a boat fishing! Gusts of wind every now and then send the colorful fall leaves raining down to cover the earth with their beauty and ruffles the “It’s the little things in life that count to make it more worth while; A little bit of worthy praise or just a friendly smile. So many times along the way burdens have been eased Because someone said to me a little word that pleased. You do not have to write a book to tell the world you care, Just a little kindness shown will help most anywhere. God’s greatest gift is friendship; we know that’s a fact. So always wear a great big smile; it helps to push tears back.” On this Lord’s Day, the rains came! It was such a blessing to our dry, thirsty earth! But, it was a good excuse for some people not to come to church. This to me is sad - these same folk don’t let rain, snow or sleet keep them from doing anything else they may want to do. They fail to realize that it is a real privilege to be able to get out of bed, bathe, put on clothes unassisted and enter the church of one's choice to thank God for His countless blessings. Emerson tells us “beauty is God’s handwriting”-so, look for beauty everywhere you go, and in everything. As we go through life one day at a time, we find that it’s not the big, dramatic events in life that make us happy but all those little things that we so often take for granted. This is con firmed by a lovely poem called “Little Things,” by Billy Jack Tabor. Share it with me: Asst. Supt. Henry T. Bun ting, especially our first timers. He announced that the BCWG will meet Tuesday morning at 10:30 A.M. in Fellowship Hall. The ladies will be served a “Hobo Dinner” at lunch time and all members are urged to attend. Prayer Meeting and Bible Study will be at 7:30 P.M. con ducted by Pastor Bob. Choir practice follows at 8:15 P.M. Prayer List: When we pray we ask that God’s Will be done for only He knows what the future holds. Please add our friends to your prayer list. Cecil Gregory entered Chowan Hospital Friday for surgery. Pray that it will be suc cessful; K. J. Copeland is confined to Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City, and needs prayer; Dean Peele, who underwent surgery for a brain tumor, is home now but still needs your prayers; Jerry Marlowe still has a long way to go and needs your prayers; Harold Arnold, Sr., my sister’s father-in-law of Seal Beach, Calif., suffered a mild heart attack and needs prayer; please remember Meta Mason; our Nation, its leaders and its people; our missionnaries and our Pastor, Robert S. Harrell and his family. —O— “God So Loved The World”, John 3:5-21, was the topic for our adults, beautifully taught by Deacon Wm. F. (Butch) Smith. A new spiritual birth comes through faith in God’s Son, who was sent for our salvation. Aim was that students receive everlasting life by believing in the Son of God. I’d like to express my appreciation to Gil Holt for writing the Notebook while we were away. It’s a nice feeling to know that if I am unable to write the Notebook at any time, Gil will pitch right in and get the job done. Property Law Enacted Giving away or selling real or personal property (savings accounts, stocks and bonds, etc.) below the fair market value in order to be eligible for Medicaid or State-County Special Assistance is no longer possible under a new law enacted in June by the N. C. General Assembly. According to Secretary of Human Resources, Dr. Sarah T. Morrow, the law became effective October 1. Transfers of real property in order to become eligible for Medicaid have been prohibited since July, 1977. A similar law was passed in 1979 for the State-County Special Assistance Program which pays for rest home care. According to Dr. Morrow, the earlier laws were en acted to stem the giving away of substantial amounts of land and the homes of persons who needed nursing home or rest home care. However, those laws did not stop the transfers of personal property such as savings, bank certificates, stocks, bonds, etc. in order to qualify for Medicaid or SHOP I.N.S. I at W.E.S. At our morning Worship Service, the Shepherd of Bandon’s flock, Pastor Robert S. Harrell, brought a powerful and inspiring message entitled “The Changeless in a Changing World”, Heb. 13:7-8, em phasis on vs. 8. Brief resume follows: We are living in a world of change. In the lifetime of some of us we have seen the whole history of aviation - from the first flight of the Wright Brothers to our present day faster than sound Jets. Some of us have witnessed the birth of the auto and truck and their modernization; the birth of radio, TV and computers; satellites orbiting our planet and others and have seen our fellowmen walking on the surface of the moon! We accept all this change that has taken place in our lifetime and take it for granted. But, the world was in existence millions of years before these things took place. Jesus never travelled more than 200 miles from where he was born and He did all His travel on foot!! Our social life has changed too - we have moved from the simple to the complex. The great need of every individual is to find rest home payments. With the new law, both real and personal property transfers at less than fair market value will result in ineligibility for Medicaid or rest home payments for a period of one to three years. “The focus of these two public assistance programs” said Dr. Morrow, “is for assisting persons who do not have sufficient income or assets, and those who have exhausted their income or assets, in paying for necessary medical and custodial care.” Under the law, the county departments of Social services will be required to deny eligibility when real property and personal property including non essential motor vehicles, business equipment, boats and motors, and intangible personal property, have been given away or sold at less than fair market value. “Individuals will be allowed to submit evidence to prove the purpose for disposal was for a reason other than to qualify for assistance,” Dr. Morrow explained. some kind of stability in this time of change - some meaning - some purpose in the midst of all this change - an anchor that gives us the power to live victoriously. It is NOW that the gospel of Jesus Christ leads the way. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, hovering over the flow of centuries, our Savior, is the Alpha and Omega - the beginning and the end. In our relationship to him comes the anchor hold which gives our lives meaning and stability in the changes around us. He not only calls us but enters savingly into our lives to help us. By His mercy and grace He gives us the strength to live the life he calls us to live. He is there with us every step of the way. The destiny of our world will not be determined by satellites, etc. but by Death Claims Mrs. Edwards SUFFOLK - Mrs. Inez Bunch White Edwards, 78, of 9589 South Quay Road died Saturday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.
