Thursday, November 5, 1981 Letter To The Herald Editor: Dr. Lucas Thank you very much for telling the story as you have observed it. I am referring to a commentary about Dr. C. Clement Lucas and the Albemarle Family Health Services. I have only viewed the events as an outsider of Annual Dinner Is Planned The Free Will Baptist churches in Washington, Tyrrell, Martin, Pasquotank, and Chowan counties will hold their annual dinner in support of Mount Olive College tonight (Thursday), at 7:30 P. M. at Washington County Union School in Roper. David Cahoon, chairman, announced that the goal for the 13 churches is $5,475. The local dinner is one of 17 being held throughout eastern North Carolina during October and November with a combined goal of $156,000. Since the dinners were begun in 1963, they have provided more than $1.3-million in gift support for the college. “Through these dinners GIGANTIC APPLE SALE BIG DISCOUNTS ON • RED DELICIOUS • GOLDEN DELICIOUS • STAYMAN WINES APS VALHALLA GROCERY HWY. 32 NORTH SATURDAY, OCT. 31 9:00 A.M. ■ 5:00 P.M 808 HARRELL, PROP. In regards to the events of the indictments against Dr. Lucas, I feel that again he has been a victim of dirty tricks. No man in his right we want to provide friends, alumni and members of the Free Will Baptist Church an opportunity to invest in the work of Mount Olive College,” declared President W. Brukette Raper. “These dinners will help provide the support we need to develop Mount Olive into a four-year institution.” At the annual fund raising event, the college will present three SIOO scholarships: one to the church bringing the largest contribution; one to the church giving the greatest amount of money per capita; and one to the church with the largest number of high school students present. mind would jeopardize his career for $197.28, which is the total monies involved in the indictments, some counts which total only 90 cents. To have closed his office with approximately $100,000.00 on the books as uncollectable, it is truly a sad day for us.
