Michael Moore, son of Julia Moore, 125 East Albemarle, Edenton, participated in trainins exercise Bright Star, designed to test the U. S. ability to deploy troops to the Middle East. The service member is part of a 4,000-man American force that took part in joint maneuvers with Egyptian force military personnel near Cairo. A wireman, Moore is assigned with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He is a 1980 graduate of J. A. Holmes High School, Edenton. Lt. Green Gets Promotion - Lt. Col. J. Larry Green, head of the Department of Military Science at Saint Augustine’s College, was recently promoted to the rank of full colonel. In ad dition to heading Saint Augustine’s Reserve Of ficers Training Corpß (ROTC), he OOlKinues to effectively Provide supervision and guidance of ROTC extension center programs at Elizabeth City State and Shaw universities. F*rior to assuming ROTC duties at Saint Augustine’s College, Col. Green com manded the Second Bat talion, 17th Field Artillery and Camp Pilham near the Korean Demilitarized Zone. He has held numerous command and staff positions including that of Inspector General and Operation War Plans Of ficer at the Army’s Forces Command Headquarters. Col. Green, an ROTC graduate of Tennessee State University, also holds the MA degree in management and supervision from Central Michigan University. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Bronze Stars, two ’ Air Medals, two Army Com mendations and two Air Force Commendations. New Course To Be Taught Officials at Beaufort County Community College announced this week that the Carpentry and Cabinet making Program will offer a course in millwork and cabinetmaking for the first time during the up-coming winter quarter. Offered on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule the course involves a total of 220 hours of in struction and shop ex perience for which ten credit hours are awarded by the college. Meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 A. M. until 4:30 P. M. and Friday from 8:30 A. M. until 1:30 P. M. The course will last for eleven weeks from January 6 until March 23. Hands - on experience in the shop is augmented by classroom work as students study and perform cabinetmaking and interior trim and finish work as practiced by the General Contracor in Residential and Light Commercial Construction and Remodeling. Emphasis is placed on developing a working knowledge of wood, wood products, hand and power tools, jointery, design and layout, and construction of cabinets and their sub assemblies. This is not a hobby-type course. It is designed for the serious student desiring a firm, basic education in cabinetmaking. There are no prerequsits. Registration for the course is January 5, 1982, at the college. Cost is 32.50 plus text (Which is ap proximately $20.). For in formation about this or other courses call 946-6194.
