Holley, Route l, Edenton has completed a field ar tillery officer basic course ’ at the U. S. Army Field Ar tillery School, Fort Sill, Okla. During the course, students ; gain proficiency in artillery techniques and are in troduced to new weapons •and doctrine. ~ ' Cofield is a 1981 graduate of N. C. A&T State Uni versity, Greensboro. Registration Noted • ’.• •Beginning January 1, all -.applications for vehicle registration and vehicle -registration renewal must .contain a certification statement, according to ..Division of Motor Vehicles ..(DMV) officials. A specific place on the vehicle registration application form for these certification statements will be provided. The vehicle owner must certify that he holds liability .insurance coverage by listing the name of the in surance company and policy number. He must also certify that there are no ad .Yflorm (property) taxes owned on the vehicle. Finally the owner must .certify that he was the legal owner on January 1 of the -year of the title registration by naming the county in “which the vehicle is registered for property taxes and also the month and the year that this Vehicle is listed for tax purposes. “The listing of the county, month, and year is a part nership effort with the counties so each county can be assured its taxes will be *. collected in a timely fashion,” remarked J. M. (Bill) Penny, acting com missioner of Motor ■' Vehicles. DMV officials encourage Vehicle owners to complete these certification requirements on the ap plication in order to avoid unnecessary delays. “Since ' -our aim is to provide prompt, efficient service, ; we’re asking that the owner pay careful attention to the information on the application. However, ‘ should he inadvertently •forget to supply the proper information, the title will be returned with a request that these certified statements be sent to us,” commented Penny. Also - Effective January 1, it becomes mandatory to wHte-in the accurate odometer reading on all N. C. vehicle title applica tions at the time of transfer. In a concerted effort to work with the public on the • new ruling, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) officials designated ' December as a trial and • error month for those vehicle owners applying for • titles in December. •'•-' In a random sampling of odometer compliance ratios ,: done by DMV statisticians '•'ip December, ap proximately 72 per cent ot those applying for titles in •December listed the - odometer readings on the form. Penny commented \ that this figure represented a- fair percentage of '"voluntary compliance. • “If the odomter reading is -listed in the space provided ’ on the application, then we r ’ can process the application : iW’a more prompt, efficient manner,” continued Bill Penny. “After all, we are '-.here to assist the public in -* the buying and selling of Vehicles, and this simple procedure of writing in the 'Odometer reading will ' ■assure everyone of a high Success rate in the ' processing and delivery of titles,” remarked Penny. The inclusion of odometer ’•readings on title and ap plication forms is designed tt> protect the consumer 'from individuals and ' automobile dealers who • lake unfair advantage of > purchasers by altering odometer readings, ac cording to Penny. vVSiCTr with 3-way savings; *1 jQkC DlfP-CUTWEEKEND I 5 * WI-OMMMW W TjSSU .edeVminC COUPONS "C (jW***" irUTITIgJ Pt J. ■ Cl IDCDCBCriiICI * .
