S. Senator Jesse Helms to call a meeting in Raleigh, Sep tember 8 to organize a drive for funds to save the famous landmark. It is believed that a successful volunteer drive to raise as much as sl-million will demonstrate to Congress that North Carolinians want the historic structure that is the tallest lighthouse in the United States permanently protected. Teacher for this class will be Gladys White. 3. 36” Hammock (cost approximately S2O) - Class members will tie a ham mock from twisted spun polyester. Teacher for the class will be Hilda Goodwin. 4. Tatting (cost ap proximately $2) - Students will learn basic tatting which can be used to make trims, etc. This is a very old needlecraft. Ima As bell will be teaching this class. 5. Candlewicking (cost approximately ?5) Students will make a pillow with a design of knots and running stitches on muslin. May have ruffle or corded binding. Sue Parrish will be teaching this class. 6. Square Baskets (cost approximately $6.25) • Students will weave a small square basket with a hand carved handle.
