Page 6-B Update On Estate Ptanntaf By Theresa T. Ford Assoc. Home Ec. Extension Agt. On Wednesday, February 3,1:30P.M. at the Municipal Building the Agricultural Extension Service will provide an up-date on Estate Planning. Dr. R. C. Wells, In Charge of Ex tension Economics and Business, North Carolina State University will present the up-date. The Economic Recovery Act of 1981 made new changes in the Federal Estate Gift Tax provision. These changes are sub stantial and effect farm and non-farm property owners. Many people will need to carefully review their current Estate Plan if they are to take full advantage of these changes. For example, gift tax provisions have been liberalized and the amount of property a person can leave to a spouse will increase during the next six years. Substantial changes are also made for the small family business and farm estate. Planning needs to be done now, not five or ten years in the future. All property owners owe it to their families to learn about these two provisions. Mark this date on your calendar - Wed nesday, February 3. Mr. Tyer Gets New Assignment NEW BERN Carl Tyer who has served as Public Relations Manager for Weyerhaeuser Company’s North Carolina Region since August of 1980, has been given a new assignment. Effective January 11, Tyer became Organization Process Manager for the New Bern Pulp Mill. In this new position, Tyer will report directly to Mill Manager, George Henson. Tyer was responsible for media and community relations in New Bern, Jacksonville, and Moncure over the past year and a half and was very active in numerous regional and statewide organizations. In his new position, he will focus on the New Bern Mill and will function as a special assistant to the Mill Manager responsible for the development and com pletion of special projects including those involving organizational ef fectiveness. Tyer joined Weyer haeuser Company as a public relations representative at Plymouth, North Carolina in 1974, moved to the company’s Northern Washington Region where he served in both public affairs and personnel jobs before returning here. Planting Begins Continued From Page 5-B port, equipment readiness, safety and fire control techniques. Tom Smith has been named supervisor of Quality andTechnicalServices at the Plymouth Fine Paper operations. Smith and his family will be living in Plymouth. He formerly was quality control supervisor at Weyerhaeuser’s Fine Paper mill in Rothschild, Wisconsin. Weyerhaeuser logging crews are busy with the pre commercial thinning of company forest plantations on sites planted in 1975 and 1976. The sites, initially planted with 850 seedlings per acre, are being thinned down to about 400 trees per acre. An important part of long-term forest management, the thinning operation removes lesser quality trees from the plantations allowing more growing room and less competition for the better trees that remain. About 6,000 acres of plantations in the Albemarle Land and Timber District will be thinned during 1982. Russell B. Oliver of Plymouth is being recognized for 35 years service to the company in maintenance at the Plymouth Fiber Group.
