A falling Cards ?Are Mailed i TARBORO Carolina /Telephone’s new 1982 toll credit cards, renamed “calling” cards, will be mailed to customers by Jan. 15. Credit card holders who do not receive their new calling cards by Jan. 15 should contact their local business offices. George T. Pate, general commercial and marketing manager with Carolina Telephone, said telephone operators will accept calls on either 1981 or 1982 cards through Jan. 31. Beginning Feb. 1, only 1982 calling card calls will be accepted. Carolina Telephone has changed the name of its credit card to calling card in preparation for American Telephone and Telegraph’s nationwide implementation of calling card service (CSS). This name change is the first in a series of steps necessary to accommodate the future changes required when this automated long distance calling system goes into effect in 1983 or 1984. Acting Director Is Appointed GREENVILLE Dr. Susan J. McDaniel, the director of the university’s summer sessions since 1973, will become East Carolina University’s acting director of admissions effective February 1. The appointment was announced jointly by Dr. Robert H. Maier, vice chancellor for academic affairs, and Chancellor Thomas B. Brewer. Mc- Daniel will succeed Walter M. Bortz who is resigning to become admissions director at the University of Hart ford in Hartford, Conn. Dr. McDaniel will con tinue to serve as director of Summer School, Maier said. She holds faculty rank as associate professor of Biology and has held ap pointment of increasing responsibility in the Division of Academic Af fairs including having served as associate vice chancellor since 1978. She has served on the university’s admissions committee since 1972 as a faculty representative and later as ex-officio representative of the division of academic affairs. “For years, Dr. McDaniel has served on our Univer sity Admissions Committee and has acted as the Academic Affairs ad ministrative liaison with our Office,” Major said. “She is totally familiar iwith our Admissions Office operations and is very well qualified to assume this key responsibility. We feel fortunate in having the services of such a capable and experienced ad ministrator to assume the duties of the Director of Admissions A native of Kansas, McDaniel earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology and at State University and received the PhD in zoology and botany from the University of Oklahoma in ■ 1968.
