John Simmons, Jr. dean of student develop ment, said the group has been selected to join the ranks of the country’s most outstanding campus leaders. Campus nom inating committees and editors of the annual directory chose the students on the basis of academic achievement, community service, extracurricular leadership, and future potential. Simmons said outstanding students have been honored in the directory since it was first published in 1934. More than 1,300 postsecondary institutions in all 50 states, the district of Columbia and several foreign nations Mr. White Taken In Death Carroll P. White, 52, of Vanceboro and formerly of Edenton, died Jan. 22 in the Craven County Hospital, Newbern. A native of Chowan County he was the son of Henry J. and Mrs. Nonie Miller White, both of Edenton and the husband of Mrs. Doris Freeman White of Vanceboro. He was employed with Weyerhaeuser Co. and was a retired Army Veteran. He was a member of Vanceboro Christian Church. Surviving besides his wife and parents are four sons: Carroll P. White, Gary White, and Brad White, all of Vanceboro and Shannon White of Columbia. Ross Adderholt of Hobbsville, pre-business ad ministration; Lisa Winslow Bunch of Belvidere, medical secretary technology; Mary Jo Forehand of Gregory, liberal arts; and Richard R. McElrath of Moyock, pre science. three daughters: Kathy Smith of Rocky Mount, Brenda Provost of New Bern, and Jan White of Vanceboro; four sisters: Mrs. Mary W. Ashley of Edenton, Mrs. Evelyn Hare of Tyner, Mrs. Sadie Wilder of South Mills, and Mrs. Lydia Harrison of Port Angeles, Washington, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 25 at 1 P.M. in the Vanceboro Christian Church. Burial followed in the National Cemetery, New Bern with military honors.
