Page 2-B Tax Special Taxpayers will learn everything they need to know about filing federal tax returns when public television {stations broadcast “Your Tax Return: The Bottom Line on Improving Your Form.” Robert Guillaume of the hit television show, “Benson,” will host the three-hour special, which airs Sunday, February 7 at 2 P.M. ET mi PBS. Tax experts from the Internal Revenue Service will provide advice on completing and submitting tax returns. Phone lines at IRS offices throughout the country will be open during the telecast to respond to viewer’s questions. The program, which will be interpreted for the hearing impaired, is produced for ,PBS by WQED-Pittsburgh in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service. IRS representatives will give detailed instructions on selecting and filing such forms as the 1040 A, 1040, Schedule A (for itemizing deductions) and Schedule B (for reporting income form interest and dividends). Expenses related to child care services and energy saving adjustments to homes, which frequently qualify for tax credits, will be discussed along with Earned Income Credit, a direct credit for qualifying families earning under SIO,OOO. The special will also cover the numerous credits and deductions that older Americans can take, such as the one-time exclusion of profits from the sale of their residences, extra exemp tions for those over 65 and special assistance available through the IRS will be discussed. Tax specialists will also cover the im portance of accuracy and of keeping records. Changes Set TARBORO Organizational changes affecting several Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company departments were announced Friday by Wayne Peterson, company president. Ron Sondergard, con troller of United Telephone System Inc., Kansas City, Mo., of which Carolina Telephone is a member, has been elected controller of Carolina Telephone, replacing William C. Morris who was elected treasurer of the company effective „ Feb. 1, 1982. Other moves becoming effective on that date are as follows: Billy S. Wilder moves from treasurer to general commercial - marketing manager. George T. Pate moves from general com mercial - marketing man ager to director of corporate communications replacing W. T. Jones, public relations manager. Jones was named manager of economic development. Peterson said that these moves are intended to strengthen the operations of Carolina Telephone as the company prepares for ex tensive changes now taking place throughout the communications industry. Emphasizing the need and the challenge of making the company’s customers and local, state and federal officials understand the impact of industry changes, Peterson saiii, “Deregulation, competition and rapidly rising rates will require a constant dialogue with the public. Brothers Gets Medal Marine Staff Sgt. Ernest Brothers, son of Volivia and Louis Brothers, Jr., Route 2, Edenton and whose wife, Sara, is the daughter of Fred L. and Mildred Wills of 111 Oakum Circle, also of Edenton, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. The Good Conduct Medal signifies faithful and obedient service during a three-year period. To earn it, enlisted Marines must achieve and maintain an unblemished conduct record for the entire period.
