Page 10-A PTA Meeting The Chowan Junior High School PTA will meet in the school auditorium on Thursday at 7:30 P.M. Sheriff Troy Toppin will present a program of in terest to parents of teenagers. All parents and interested citizens are urged to attend. Conference Day Realizing the importance of communication between parents and teachers, the Edenton-Chowan Board of Education has for several years established two Parent-Teacher Conference days in the school system’s annual calendar. February 5 marks the second and last such day during this school year. Students will not at tend school on the day set aside for parents and teachers. The upcoming conference day marks the end of the third six weeks and the first semester grading period. At this point, parents are en couraged to make ap pointments with their children’s teachers to discuss any school concerns, academic or otherwise. Teachers will be available to answer questions and to offer suggestions for help if requested. Letters from each school have been sent to parents by students with directions for setting up appointments. Around The County Farms By Mike Williams County Ext. Chrmn. The Agricultural Ex tension Service is spon soring a number of events in the county and across the state this month that you will want to put on your calendar. Young Chowan County farmers who want to ex change ideas with other young farmers from across North Carolina can do so in Greensboro on February 19- 20. These are the dates for the North Carolina Young Farmer Forum, sponsored by the N. C. Agricultural Extension Service and the N. C. Farm Bureau Federation. The forum has been planned with the help of 10 young farmers from across the state and should zero in on the needs of people who have most of their farming careers ahead of them. Topics will include such things as marketing, money management, energy and computers. Speakers will include John Sledge, president of the N. C. Farm Bureau, and J. E. Legates, dean of the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences at N. C. State University. Events that are happening right here in Chowan County are the following: February 4 - Albemarle Area Cattlemen’s Con ference at the American Legion Building - 8:30 A M. - 3:30 P.M. February 11 - Chowan County cotton production meeting, Municipal Building at 2 P.M. Alan York and Jack Bachelor will speak on cotton production and insect control. Someone will also be present to speak on the 801 l Weevil Eradication Program and the referendum affecting it the week of February 15-19. February 12 - Chowan County Sweet Potato Production Meeting Boswell’s Restaurant at 10:30 A.M. with Dr. George Wilson from N. C. State University. February 16 - Pork Conference, American Legion Building 9:30 A.M. - to 3:30 P.M. February 18 - Corn Production Meeting - Boswell’s Restaurant, 6:30 P.M. Dr. Paul Lilly and Dr. John Anderson will speak on fertility and corn production as it rdates to this area. February 24 - No-till Production to be held jointly with Perquimans County, ARPDC Building, Hertford, at 6:30 P.M. Dr. V. Alan Bandel, University of Mayland and Paul Lilly, North Carolina State University will speak on methods of no-tiil farming.
