Thursday, February 4,1962 Essay Winners Are Recognized American History Month will be observed by the Edenton Tea-Party Chapter DAR at a luncheon meeting at Boswell’s Restaurant on February 10. The winners of the American History Essay Contest, which was held recently, will be present to read their essays to members, parents and friends. The NSDAR designated February as American History Month in 1952 and, as part of its observance, a contest has been held each year in grades 5,6, 7 and 8. Children all across the country are encouraged to take part. “A Famous American Born in February” was chosen as the theme for the 1982 contest, for this year marks the 250 anniversary of the birth of George Washington. Research helped the students discover many other famous Americans who were also bom in February 1900 and who had great influence on American history. The local winners in the contest were Peter John Mitchener, Benjamin Calvin Hobbs, Robin Bass and Margaret O’Leary. All winners were students of Mrs. Betty Bissette, who is an instructor at Swain Elementary School and also Chowan High School. Centralized School Menus The Edenton - Chowan Schools have released the following menus for February 8-12. Monday - Juice, assorted cereals, milk. Cheeseburger - bun, pickle chips, french fries-ketchup, applesauce, milk. ' Tuesday- Juice, cin namon danish, milk. Meat loaf w-gravy, steamed rice, green limas, sliced peaches, rolls, milk. Wednesday - Juice, scrambled eggs, buttered toast, milk. Pizza, carrot and celery sticks, potato tots - ketchup, peanut cluster, milk. Thursday - Apple sauce, cheese toast, milk. Beef vegetable soup, sandwiches, crackers, apple pie, milk. Friday - Juice, doughnuts, milk. Fish ’n cheese-bun cole slaw, green beans, lemon pudding, milk. McLamb Chosen To Assume Post ; Reuben S. Hart, vice .president-manager North least Region of Gregory Poole Equipment Company, has announced the ap pointment of Ron McLamb as sales representative in the Edenton area. McLamb most recently has been headquartered in Washington, where he covered assigned accounts. He replaces Glenn Matteson who has transferred to Gregory Poole’s Industrial Division as sales representative in the Northeastern part of the state. Gregory Poole Equipment Company is the Caterpillar dealer for Eastern North Carolina with headquarters in Raleigh and branch facilities in Edenton, Fayetteville, Washington and Wilmington.
