What does the future hold for the area? The life of North Carolina coastal cultures and other aspects of North Carolina’s maritime heritage will be explored during the second N. C. Maritime Heritage Conference March 5. The day-long conference at Cape Fear Technical Institute in Wilmington will offer sessions dealing with early European exploration, the Lost Colony, underwater archaeology, ports and shipbuilding, contemporary maritime folklife and maritime art. From 1962-1963 he was Chairman of the Department of Social Science at Chowan College, Murfreesboro, N.C. Due to the Communist take-over of Hungary, Dr. Udvamoki. came to the United States in 1947 and became a citizen in 1953. He has been pastor at Gatesville Baptist Church and the author of books and articles for such publications as Christianity Today, Watchman Examiner, Canadian Baptist, Biblical Recorder i and The Baptist Program. He is a lecturer on European Christianity, International Affairs and Christianity 1 Behind the Iron Curtain. Commission; Robert Byington and Alan D. Watson, UNC at Wilmington; Bruce Cheeseman, N. C. Mrs. Udvamoki is a native of GranvQle County, N.C. She was educated at Chowan College, Mur freesboro, N.C. and WMU Training School, Louisville, Kentucky. In 1935, she was appointed by the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Con vention to work in Hungary. She was transferred to i Bucarest, Romania in 1936 and returned to Budapest, Hungary in 1938. Invasion by communism forced her to leave Hungary in 1942. Following this, she served as Dean of Women and Professor of Missionary Hilton. An extra charge will be made for the social hour and lunch. The Betty Shoppe ) \ downtown edenton ) Tax Assistance Available As a part of his ongoing interest in volunteer ac tivities in North Carolina, Governor Jim Hunt has proclaimed’ the month of February 1982, as “Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Month.” The proclamation recognized the many volunteers throughout the state who prepare income tax returns for low income and elderly and han dicapped Individuals who either cannot afford the services of a paid tax preparer, or who cannot visit an Internal Revenue Service office in person for assistance. The volunteers, trained and sponsored by the IRS, are part of a program which hap been active, ongoing Thursday, February 11,1962 effort by the IRS since 1969.
