Saunders and the Continued On Page 9-A Dr. DeVine Elected Chief Os State; Chowan Hospital’s Medical Staff has elected new officers who will serve for a two-year period. Dr. Leibert E. DeVine was elected Chief of Staff; Dr. Robert Earl Lane was elected Vice Chief of Staff; and Dr. Archie D. Walker, Jr. was re-elected to serve another term as Secretary. Dr. DeVine, a family practitioner whose office is located on North Queen .Street, moved to Edenton Edenton in May 1979. He is a 1975 graduate of Ohio State University Medical School and completed a residency in Family Practice at Halifax Hospital Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Dr. Lane began practicing in Edenton in February 1973. He is a 1967 graduate of Tulane Medical School and completed his residency in General Practice at Contra Costa County Hospital in Marinez, California. Dr. Lane is a member of the THE CHOWAN HERALD Chowan Medical Center group and spends much of his practice time at their Hertford clinic. Dr. Walker, who moved to Edenton in November 1958, has served as Secretary of the Medical Staff for the past three years. He is a 1954 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed a General Practice residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Cooper To Serve CIAC WILSON Jerry Cooper, faculty athletic chairman of Atlantic Christian College for two years, will serve as secretay of the Carolinas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAC) beginning in the fall of 1982. Cooper, an associate professor of mathematics for 13 years at ACC, will be installed during the week of the Carolinas Conference basketball tournament at Catawba College in Salisbury February 23-26. Cooper’s duties will include recording minutes for circulation at the con ference’s two meetings held each year. Should Cooper remain in the position of faculty athletic chairman, he would move to the position of vice-president for 1983- and president for 1984- Cooper has been active in his support of ACC athletic throughout his 13 years with the school. He served as cheerleader advisor for five years, and was on the athle - tic committee for several years preceding his appoint ment to the position of chair man. A native of Galax, Va., Cooper completed his high school education there and returned to Galax to teach after completing his un dergraduate work at Lynch burg College. Cooper later left to do his master’s degree work at the University of South 1 Carolina.
