Vernon James of Pasquotank was in Raleigh three days last week for the short emergency session of the North Carolina General Assembly. This session was called to deal with the redistricing plan which had been turned down by the U. S. Justice Department. This has- been a very trying matter. “Hopefully, it is now resolved to meet with federal approval,” Rep. James said, “although I lost a small part of Washington County, I want the people there to know that I will continue to work for their best interests. I also gained a small part of Gates County and welcome them as constituents.” While is session the Legislature appointed Teressa T. Bullock to the u.n.c. board of Governors. Rep. James spends quite a bit of time commuting to Raleigh on legislative matters but his Raleigh office is open only during legislative sessions. The next scheduled session begins June 2. He can be reached at his Elizabeth City home address. ESC Funds Employment Security Commission (ESC) Chairman, Glenn R. Jer nigan, said, “I am elated and excited by the U. S. House of Representatives action which passed an emergency appropriation which will now’ go to the Senate for action.” Jernigan feels very strongly that the sup plemental appropriation, when acted upon by the Senate today, will replenish approximately $5-million to the state ESC budget and will prevent projected office closings acted upon by Continued On Page 12-B | amide ■ I . . y I eoitilil , RCfl # Now you can have the luxury of ' ” i iiiwniliiiinViMlMWkjiriWii in , RCA ColorTrak remote control Top-of-tho-line for no more than you’d expect to pay for many manually tuned HDTPAIC OOHA I nn a sets.
