Local Taxation During the early development of our country, property was a reliable source of taxation for local governments that did its part in the development of our country. Through modern technology, most people do not have to rely on large amounts of property to earn their living. As increasing numbers of our society earn their living with decreasing need for property, this form of taxation has become outdated. If we are to provide the goods and services demanded by our citizens, local taxation must be revised to allow those citizens who do not primarily depend on property for their livelihood to share in providing funds at the local level to help meet their demands and needs * "*
