Page 2-B Seen In The Yellow Pages Os The Chowan Herald As Seen In The Files Os The Chowan Herald 45 Years Ago * 1W According to Mrs. Ran dolph Holoman, acting district manager, she recorded that the Edenton area of N.C. State Em ployment Service showed 762 people in that six county area registered for em ployment. A special meeting was held for the Town Council and the purpose was the sale of the old Edenton Armory. The property was sold at public auction to T. Wallace Jones and both M. P. Whichard and the Town Council approved the sale. Sixteen cases of con tagious diseases were noted in the county during Feb. Whooping cough was the lead, with eight cases reported. While chicken pox followed with six cases and two cases of scarlet fever. The Board of County Commissioners called a necessary meeting to vote on whether or not Chowan County would open a ABC Liquor store. Jenkins attended the 13th annual convention of the N. C. Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association, held in Greensboro. Joe A. Webb, Jr., was named manager for the Edenton Colonials. Junior Woman’s Club sponsored an art exhibit. Mrs. Frank Holmes, Mrs. Gordon Price and Mrs. Jack Mooney were ladies in charge. The Chapel Hill Blue Cross Service was offered to the Edenton citizens. This nonprofit hospital service provided the area with essential hospital services in their times of need. 30 Years Ago - 1952 The Edenton Cub Scouts held their Blue and Gold Banquet in the area scout cabin. A petition was asked for the improvement of the narrow Indian Trail Road. Mary Alice Byrum received D.A.R. award for the year. 10 Years Ago - 1972 Grampian Marine Limited announced that they were to build a plant in Edenton. Laurie Hutchinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal Ballroom at Pinehurst Hotel at which time state officers will give their reports and the Out standing State Junior will be announced. A memorial service for members who have died during the past year will be held at 4 o’clock. Tuesday night’s banquet will feature the address by Mrs. Tiberio and musical selections by the Sandhills Community College Singers.
