THE CHOWAN HERALD Page 7-B Dinner Slated The Northeastern conjunction with the North Carolina Women s Political Caucus - Political Action Committee will be honoring locally elected women and women candidates at the Jeannette Rankin Day Dinner -19*2. The dimer is being held on April 2 nt 7 P.M. at Tuck’s Restaurant in Elizabeth City. Guest speaker will be Senator Rachel Gray from High Point. The public is invited to attend. Local women in die ten Northeastern county area will be recognixed for their abilities to take risks, faith in themselves, their dedication to serve the public and to make their localities a better place to live. Jeannette Rankin Day Dinners and celebrations are being held and spon sored by local and state Women's Political Caucuses all over the United States in celebration of Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress. Congresswoman Rankin, a high - minded pioneer woman from Montana, took ho- seat in the U S. House of Representatives on April 2, 1917. “Funds raised at the dinner will be used to elect women candidates naming for seats in all levels of government,” reported Lueta Sellers, President of North Carolina Women's Political Caucus and Chair of the NCWPC - PAC. The dinner in Elizabeth City will mark the beginning of the 1982 fund raising drive in North Carolina to get women elected “It is very fitting that we Caucus women in the .Albemarle Area be the first in North Carolina to begin this year's drive,” commented Ms. Sellers. “The Albemarle Area is known for its history, particularly for the first politically organized effort by women - better known as the Edenton Tea Party. The courage, sense of duty and spirit displayed by women in our early history can still be seen in women of today, who are committed to gaining equal represen tation for women." Ms. Sellers added. Women make up 7 per cent of the County Com missioners in North Carolina, with only 31 counties having female representation on the Boards. The North Carolina legislature is made up of only 12.4 per cent women, with no minority women representation. "This is 1982 and it is amazing that we in North Carolina are not closer to fair representation for women at the local and state levels. Our primary purpose as the North Carolina Women's Political Caucus is to improve this situation and win equal and fair representation for women by women who care about the majority, women, their families and the dif ficulties they face.' stated Ms. Sellers “We hope that women and men in our Northeastern area, who believe in a truly representative democracy, will join us at our Jeannette Rankin Day Dinner and in our efforts to win fair representation for women," concluded Sellers. For more information and tickets to the dinner, in terested persons may contact Lueta Sellers, Route 2, Edenton. N. C„ 482-4134. Best Buys For Clothes If you hare a limited amount of money to spend on clothing (and who doesn’t these days?) and still want to look professional, spend the major portion of it on tops. Tops include jackets, suits, shirts and blouses, says Harriet Tutterow, extension clothing specialist at North Carolina State University. “Bottoms” can be of lesser cost and more sub dued in color. Miss Tutterow advises. The reason? The focal point of a person's body, whether male or female, is the face.
