Page 8-A - The Bandon Notebook - By Maggie B. Hi, Neighbors! Don’t ever let it be said that women can’t keep secrets! Recently Mrs. Trudy Lapham was honored by members of the BCWG. She was both sur prised and delighted! Trudy was a Charter Member of the Bandon Chapel Women’s Guild and has worked diligently at anything and everything she’s been asked to do. She has efficiently served the Guild as Treasurer for the last few years. Her expert help in many areas to members has been invaluable. She is loved by all as a true friend - one who knows you as you are with all your faults yet loves and supports you in spite of them. Pres. Helen Ellinwood, a thoughtful person full of joy and beauty, opened her well planned program with prayer. At the piano, Hilda Strickland played the music to “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, then everyone started to sing - but - the words weren’t the same! They were specially written for Trudy, with love, by Audrey Mine. Trudy, still busy with her bookwork, upon hearing these lovely words voiced loud and clear, quickly looked up in amazement, tears trickling down her cheeks: “What a friend we have in Trudy, she brings joy into our hearts Her smile is like a ray of sunshine, 0 such gladness she imparts. All our funds are in her keeping, ieaves us with no fears or care Such a tiny, little person to spread her service everywhere. We would like to thank you, Trudy, for your love and loyalty We hold you in our prayers forever, may God bless you abundantly.” [ MAY FURNITURE^ fgatsi^ FOR JUNE BRIDESI payment M 9 ij WITH APPROVED CREDIT - 15% SAVINGS j=2 15% off Living Room ; jjs§ g SIKfP« Register To Win * Beautiful Cedar .i—Chest to be given fife away tune 12 3v L I]\ Bride-'tfrße \ * Must haw wtddini d4,t *•» *« IM2- Sale Ends June 12. 1982 • Financing Available • lay ?o way*- • MastorCharqe • Visa b b Furniture Outlet 2 Convenient Locations Bodham Road m ICR Edenton, N.C. - JSR2 * „ 482-0082 Powt Harbor, N.C., i When the song was over, two meaningful poems on “Friendship” were read. Pres. Ellinwood invited Trudy up front where she was presented a beautiful corsage and Friendship Plaque. Pictures were taken for our scrapbook. Yes, Trudy, you ARE loved by all that know you. By your actions over the years you have exemplified friendship in its highest form. On this glorious Lord’s Day it was a real privilege to be able to enter the church of your choice to thank God for His countless blessings. The fine group assembled for Sunday School at Bandon Chapel were joyfully welcomed by Supt. Meta Mason who noted that only eleven members were absent and requested that they be contacted by phone or visit to let them know they were missed. Those present were treated to an inspiring lesson by Deacon B. Kent Rowley entitled “Persecuted But Trium phant”, Rev. 7:9-17. Bible truth brought out was that God will give special honor to those who have suffered for His cause. Prayer List: When we i pray, we pray that God’s Will be done for only He : knows what is best for us. Please add our friends to your prayer list. K.J. > Copeland entered Chowan Hospital Monday; Jessie Baines was released from the hospital last week to recuperate at home. He needs special prayer; Deacon Clarence Barnes was released from the hospital last week but still needs prayer. His wife, Ada, is improving; Suzanne Jackson is improving; Carolina Swindell’s eye surgery was successful. She is now at home; Mrs. Mattie Nixon has been released for recuperation at home but still needs your love and prayers; please remember Mrs. Verna Jordan; Mrs. Sue Britt; J.W. Swindell; Larry Chandler; Bill and Joan O’Neil; pray for our Nation, its leaders and its people and that peace negotiations between the United Kingdom and Argentina will be suc cessful; remember our missionaries and our pastor, Rev. Robert S. Harrell and his family. Chairman of Deacons, William F. Smith, con ducted our Worship Service in the absence of Pastor Bob. He and his lovely wife, Janie, attended the graduation ceremony at the Univ. of North Carolina where their youngest duaghter, Robin, received her Degree. Deacon Smith introducted Mr. Larry Stallings, member of the Gideons in Elizabeth City, who brought the message entitled “Share Jesus With Others”, John THE CHOWAN HERALD 1:1-3; 3-17; Acts 6:4, Heb. 4:l*. Mr. Stallings’ sincere dedication to the purpose of the Gideons-to lead others to Christ-was very evident in his excellent message. He told a true story of how one little “red” Testament given by a Gideon to a small boy resulted in gaining eight lives for Christ. The purpose of the Gideons is carried out by the witness of its members and placing Bibles everywhere they possibly can - hospitals, hotels, motels, schools, colleges, nursing homes, jails, etc. They place Bibles in 130 countries. Larry’s wife, Barbara, is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Their motto is: “On our knees to keep Gideons on their feet”. It was a real pleasure to see these young people wit nessing for our Lord. Important! Sunday, June 13th, will be a very special day for our Chapel. All former ministers, former members and guests are invited to return for our first “Homecoming” Celebration. After the service, a covered dish luncheon will be held at the Arrowhead Beach Clubhouse. Plan to attend. ' insert paragarph from last week here Local Girl Places in National Contest! Mrs. Jimmy (Debbie) Nixon, daughter of Len and Virginia Koraska, was notified on May sth that she was the third Place Winner in the Wilton Cake Decorating Contest. Women from every state in the Union participated in this contest so it was quite an honor to place at all. Congratulations, Debbie! —o“ Our deepest sympathy is extended to Bob Ziemba and his family. His mother, Mrs. Nellie Ziemba of Utica, N.Y., recently graduated from this earthly plane to a place far more beautiful than we can imagine. There she will walk hand in hand with her Savior - no more suffering, no more sorrow. Rejoice! She’s home now - peace at last! Optimist Club Is Active Recently the Chowan Edenton Optimist Club voted to construct bathroom facilities, a storage room, and a concession stand for the recreation department and the Town of Edenton. Children of all ages will benefit from these facilities as will the Town of Edenton by saving tax dollars in the construction of the building. The only expense to the taxpayer is the cost of materials. Last Wednesday Optimist members dug the foun dation for the 18-foot by 28- foot concrete slab at Fisher Nut ball field on Badham Road. Thursday the slab was poured upon which the concrete block facility will be built. Fisher Nut ball field hosts Little League baseball under the direction of the Edenton Recreation and Parks Department. Director Robbie Laughton praised the Optimist Club and stated, “When the bathrooms are completed our teams will be able to conduct Little League tournaments, to host teams from out of town and further allow area youth to enjoy Edenton and its progressive recreation program.” Club President-elect Jerry Parks was pleased with the support shown the club’s projects and said, “Edenton has such great potential for Athletic Development. The baseball program allows our children the opportunity to deveop their physical skills and also to learn to live within our competitive society. The Optimist Club welcomes the opportunity to participate in this program.” The Optimist Club also sponsors a team in the league.
