Pamela Spruill Spruill Receives Prestigious Honor The United States Achievement Academy announced that Pamela Spruill has been named a 1982 United States National Award winner in Business Education. This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes less than 5 per cent of all American high school students. Miss Spruill, who attends John A. Holmes High School, was nominated for this National award . by Business teacher, Grace Byrum. Miss Spruill will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, published nationally. The Academy selects USAA winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors or other school sponsors and upon the Standards for Selection set forth by the Academy. The criteria for selection are a student’s academic per formance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, depen dability, and recom mendation from a teacher or counselor. Miss Spruill is the daughter of David and Carolyn Spruill. The grandparents are Mrs. Annie Lawson of Edenton and Mrs. Elnora Spruill of Hertford. Foundation Makes SIOOO Donation The Friends of Elizabeth II have received a SI,OOO donation from the Macamor Foundation of Rocky Mount. The announcement of the donation was made by Fritz and Beverly Smith of Rocky Mount, board members of the Macamor Foundation and members of the America’s Quadricentennial Corporation. The Foundation has been very supportive of the celebration of America’s four hundredth anniversary and was instrumental in securing Stanley Potter as the naval architect of the Elizabeth 11. The Elizabeth II is the representative, 16th century vessel that will be built in Manteo as part of America’s 400th anniversary celebration. The Friends of Elizabeth II has been established as the support group to help with ongoing activities associated with the ship. The funds were given to the Quadricentenniei'i Corporation for use by tire Friends of Elizabeth 11. The money will be used to help incorporate the group and establish a sales shop. 7fhe Friends, now seekihg non - profit status, will use future contributions and proceeds from the sales shop to help establish a sail training program, boat buhlding workshops and other public programs to be ass,.ociated with the Elizabeth II State Historic Site.
