Daniels, Jr., D Pasquotank' County, and J.J. (Monk) Harrington, D —Bertie, last week in troduced Senate Bill 848, calling for a reform in North Carolina’s Utility Fuel Clause. The bill which has been approved by the Joint Utilities Review Committee, embodies three main points: It allows the Utilities Commission to examine the efficiency of the electric utilities’ management and operations in fuel ad justment request. It provides for fuel cost hearings once a year, in stead of three times a year. It guarantees adequate public hearings, in vestigations and cross - examination in the fuel clause proceedings. Dr. Robert Fischback, executive director of the Public Staff of the N.C. Utilities Commission, stated, “I think this is an excellent bill and an im portant step.” “It is a fair bill,” said Gary Pearce of Gov. Hunt’s Office. Joining Sens. Daniels and Harrington in introducing the Bill, were Sens. Lawing, D—Mecklenburg, and Johnson, D—Wake. Chowan College Signs Parker MURFREESBORO - Chowan College’s Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Jim Garrison, has announced the signing of Perquimans County High School’s outstanding quarterback, Donnie Lee Parker, to a football grant for the coming season. “Donnie has had a great career at Perquimans,” stated Garrison, “as he has been a mainstay in the Pirates’ success uu the Albemarle Conference the past couple of years.” Coach Pat Morgan’s teams have shared in and won the Conference championship in 1980 and 1981, respectively. Parker comes to the Chowan campus with im pressive individual statistics. Last season, he completed 73 of 154 passes for 1020 yards and 11 touch downs while carrying the ball 63 times and scoring three TD’s. Over the past two seasons, Donnie has completed 50 per cent of his passing attempts for 2,313 yards and 30 touchdowns and has rushed for 11 scores. “We expect to use Donnie at our quarterback position,” continued Garrison, “he throws the ball well and is a scrambler, hard to catch in his own backyard.” Parker, also a letter winner in basketball and baseball, was selected to the Albemarle All - Conference football teams in 1980 and 1981; All - East and All - Albemarle football teams during this time; and a member of the 1980 & 81 Albemarle All - Conference baseball teams. Chowan, coming off a 1981 9 - 3 and East Bowl Championship season, is looking to another banner year in the Coastal Football Conference. Parker is a graduate of Perquimans County High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonidas Parker, Route 4, Hertford.
