Page 6-A Graham OK’s Herbicide Use RALEIGH Cotton farmers across North Carolina will be able to deal more effectively with overgrown goosegrass as the result of action taken by Commissioner Jim Graham to the Environmental Protection Agency on June 9. In his telegram to the federal agency, Graham advised the agency that the unusually wet weather had allowed grasses to get out of control in cotton fields across the state and chemical controls beyond the conventional were required to deal with the grass. “Hie wet weather has kept cotton farmers out of their fields and they haven’t been able to cultivate to control the grass,” ex plained Graham. “We have availed ourselves of the Crisis Exemption under the authority of Section 18 of Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) for the purpose of allowing our cotton farmers to use either Poast or Fusilade herbicides,” said Graham. The two herbicides will allow farmers to treat the grass that has grown up both in the furrows and in the row middles without damaging the cotton plants. Even if farmers were able to enter their fields today or tomorrow, said Graham, cultivation would only partially eradicate the goosegrass in the furrows and do nothing for the grass in the rows. The Chowan Herald has set 4 P.M. Mondays as the final deadline for ac ceptance of all Classified and Legal Notices. Thank you for your cooperation. fiHl LEGAL noiicfl In The General Court Os Justice District Court Division File NO. 81 CVD 192 NORTH CAROLINA CHOWAN COUNTY Glenna Tynch, Plaintiff, vs- Carroll E.
