A. Phillips Commismwr Incumbent C.A. Phillips, running for ire - election to the County Commissioners, has served on the Board of County Commissioners continuously since 1968, and in the capacity of Chairman for 10 years. Phillips has not limited his service to the County Commissioners, however. He is a former member of the Edenton Town Council. While of the Council, the authorization and building of the present Municipal Building, Shepard - Pruden Memorial Library, and sewage disposal plant, along with the acqusition of the airport property and planning of the fire station, were achieved. The North Carolina State University graduate also began to serve on the Hospital Board in the early sixties, playing a part in the building of the new hospital and additional renovation under way at the present time, and has served con tinuously on the board since his initial appointment. A few of the other honors that Phillips has garnered include: past member of the N.C.S.U. Alumni Association and Athletic Council; past director of the Edenton - Chowan Chamber of Commerce, having served several years on the Industrial Procurement Committee; past State Chairman of North Carolina Farm City Week; past Chairman and present member of the Wanchese Seafood Industrial Park; past member and present ex-officio participant of the Historic Edenton Com mission; and past president of the Edenton Lions Club and the Parent - Teachers Association. He was also instrumental in the organization of the Cub Scout Troop in Chowan County. At present, Phillips, is ta member of sSt. Pauls Episcopal Church,, is r Fresidenb and Treasurer of i the Edenton Cotton Mill. He and his wife, Ruth, reside at Homiblow Point. Warren J. Twiddy Commissioner Warren J. Twiddy, president of Twiddy In surance and Real Estate Co. and candidate for the County Commissioners, is a past president of the Edenton Junior Chamber of Commerce, also serving a District Vice - President and National Director. He was honored as one of the ten Outstanding National Directors and presently holds a lifetime mem bership in Edenton’s Junior Chamber of Commerce. Twiddy is also a past president of the Edenton P.T.A., and was previously involved in Edenton’s Lions Club and Rotary Club. Other notable honors include past Master of Unanimity Lodge No. 7, past District Education Director for the First Masonic District, member of Scotish Rites Bodies of New Bern, Sudan Shrine of New Bern, board member of the Widow’s Fund,' and being awarded KCCH Knight Commander Court of Honor in 1981. Twiddy is also an active member of Edenton Baptist Church, presently serving on the Board of Ushers and also the Building and Grounds Committee. He and his wife, Alice Pritchard Twiddy, reside at Country Club Drive in Edenton. J. D. Peele ComminioMr Incumbent J.D. Peele, seeking re - election for me Second Township seat on the Board of Chowan County Commissioners, is a native of Chowan County and now resides in the Rocky Hock section of me county with his wife, Jennie. He graduated from Chowan High School in 1945 and is a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. Peele has been a com mercial fisherman and serves as President of Peele Brothers, Inc. Included among other activities is his service on me Board of Directors of Edenton Savings and Loan Co. for several years. He also serves on the land fill committee, the recreation committee, RCAD Com mittee and Finance Com mittee. Peele is also a member of the N.C. Coastal Resources Advisory Council. He is seeking his second term cm me Board of Chowan County Com missioners. He is presently serving as Vice • Chairman of the Board. Clara Boswell Commissioner Clara M. Boswell, running for the Second Township seat on the Board of County Commissioners, is principal and one of the original organizers of me Edenton - Chowan Alternative School. She is a member of me National Association of Secondary School Prin cipals and is presently serving as Vice - Chairman of the local principal’s association. She has been an active member of me N.C. Association of Educators, having served as past treasurer and secretary. She is a member of the Edenton Business and Professional Women’s Club, serving as past president and past director of District XI, and was involved with numerous working com mittees. Because of her active participation in club and community work, Mrs. Boswell was selected BPW Club Woman of the Year for 1973. She is a past Matron of me Edenton Chapter No. 302 Order of me Eastern Star and has served as District Deputy Grand Matron for me First District of North Carolina Order of the Eastern-Star <• of; orrr Mrs. Boswell came to ' ! (phowan County Jn 1954 as "Assistant Home Extension Agent, and has since taught science at Holmes High School and Chowan High School until becoming principal in 1977. She has been very involved in state student government and serves on me Governor’s Committee for Positive Youth Development. She helped organize the Chowan County Youth Task Force and has sowed as chairman and is an active member. She is presently involved with the Community Crime Watch, having served as Vice - Chairman during its first year of organization. Mrs. Boswell is a member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church and has served as Training Union Director and Sunday School teacher. She and her husband, W. Elton Boswell, Sr., live in me Small’s Crossroads com munity. George Jones Gommi»onef Incumbent George Jones, running for the Board of Chowan County Com missioners, is a native of Chowan County. He is married to me former Reta Smith and they have three sons. Jones is a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Jones works as a hog farmer, a business which has proven to he successful. He includes among his honors and achievements, a charter member and past president of the North eastern North Carolina Pork Council ; serving on me advisory committee ! to North Carolina State Swine Researchers; and presently serving his third year on the Board of Directors of me North Carolina ' Pork Producers Association, a state - wide organization. In addition, Jones has served an the Finance committee for the Commissioners, during his past teniae. Chowan High School and N.C. State University. He , and his wife, Lynda Copeland Hollowell, and their three children live in , me Morgan Park section of Edenton. Hollowell has served on numerous committees, including: member of me Governor Advisory Council for the N.C. Dept, of Correction; member of the N.C. Parent - Teacher Association Board of Congress; Area Crusade Chairman for the N.C. division of me American ' Cancer Society, covering 14 counties; Chairman of me N.C. Watermelon Association 1982 Queen contest; life member of me N.C. Jaycees; active member of me Edenton • Chowan Optimist Club; Vice - President of the John A. Holmes High School Athletic .; Association; active member of the Chowan County Democratic party organization; a coach for little league basketball and baseball; past president of me Edenton Jaycees; and . N.C. State President for me : Jaycees in 1976 - 77, as well as holding various other offices in me N.C. Jaycees. Hollowell, who is em ployed as a real estate ; broker and farmer, is a member of Edenton Baptist Church, where he teaches an adult Sunday School class. Jerald Perry Board of Education Jerald Perry, Sr., who is seeking election in me First Township seat for the Edenton - Chowan Board, lives in Edenton with his " Wife atid" two children.
