DEALERS OWWHOLMALPW __ 701 North Broad Street, Edcnton, N.C. | THE CHOWAN HERALD ’ r ... •* Thursday. June 24, 1962 Perry Elected Chapter President -. ’ • •"; r i Michael M. Perry of Colerain has been elected president of the Roanoke • Chowan Chapter of the National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU). “We meet the third ? Thursday of each month at 11:45 A.M. at the Tomahawk Restaurant in AhosUe for * lunch and a program,” Perry said. “I urge every insurance agent in this area to come meet with us and join the association. When you do, you not only help yourself, but your policyholders also.” Perry said “The NALU is a professional organization, as important to an in surance agent as the AMA is to a doctor or the Bar Association is to a lawyer.” He continued “NALU has a powerful voice in the in surance industry and legislative action that af fects the consumer. Also, courses are offered .to in surance agents through NALU in most facets of the insurance, business. These courses help agents stay on top of the market and changes in law affecting policyholders. “Therefore, agents are better able to offer varied services to policyholders, such as programming, estate planning and pointing out legal advantages of certain policies and set tlements.” Perry is district manager of Charlotte Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Eden ton, with other district offices in Ahoskie, Williamston, Plymouth, Elizabeth City, Columbia and Manteo. Swim With Care More than 200 people die while swimming or boating in North Carolina each year. Many of these deaths occur in the state’s 68,000 farms ponds and small ÜbftuKi / »i JU .an.o. The Division of Soil and,, t Water Conservation in the ,• N.C. Department of Natural Resources and Community Development offers the following tips which could save your life or the life of a child: Never swim without a buddy. Always wear a life preserver in a boat. Always check for good footing on the bank of the pond before you start to fish. Always use a life line or long pole to rescue a disabled swimmer, unless the swimmer is a small child. If you don’t have a life line or pole, use an item of clothing. Put a fence around a pond if you have small children to protect. Most citizens recognize farm ponds and small lakes as attractive places to spend time on a hot summer day. They offer great fishing, swimming, boating, plus water for livestock, irrigation, game and birds. Using these safety tips and good judgement can make them even more enjoyable this summer. For technical assistance in planning a pond, or to check out the performance of an existing pond, call the office of your Soil and Water Conservation District.
