THE CHOWAN HERALD Nursing Commencement Held H%tfairty - first annual commencement exercises of Louise Obici School of Cursing were held on June 18 at 8 P.M. at the Suffolk Christian Church. A. Gibson Howell, executive vice president of the hospital, presided over the ceremony. The invocation and benediction were given by Dr. Robert B. Marr, minister of Suffolk Christian Church. The Class of 1982 was welcomed by Miss Mary E. Martin, director of the school, and presented by Sondra Statzer, assistant director of the school. J. Samuel Glasscock, president of the hospital, awarded diplomas to twenty graduates and pins were presented by Miss Martin. Mrs. Carol C. White, Senior Class president, spoke for the class. The com mencement address was given by Dr. Ellen C. Tuch, Director of Emergency Room, Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. Awards were presented by Howell as follows: the M.A. Cross Award for Merit was presetted to Mrs. Carol Clark White of Suffolk; the Women’s Auxiliary Nursing Award was presented to Miss Susan Renne Roberts of Bedford, Va.; The Pilot Club, “Good Citizenship” Award was presented to Mrs. Priscilla o‘Berry Edwards, of Windsor, Va.; The Paul D. Lions Club 65th Convention Held Everett J. “Ebb” Grind staff of Ballinger, Texas was elected President of The International Association of lions Clubs at the organization’s 65th Annual Convention held June 30 - July 3, 1982 in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. As President of the world’s largest service club organization, Grinds taff will travel the world representing the Association, observing local service activities sponsored by many of the more than 35,000 Lions Clubs in more than 150 countries and geographical areas, and meeting with heads of state and communities to promote Lionism and the theme of his Presidential Program: SHARE THE VISION OF SERVICE. A Lion since 1954, Grind staff is a practicing attorney and the city attorney of Ballinger. He is a past president of the Texas Lions League for Crippled Children and currently serves as chairman of the Upper Colorado River Authority. Lauded for its innovative quality, this intimate play requires a great deal of creativity and imagination on the part of the cast. Talented local actors David Lowe, Valerie Myers, Valerie Myers, Mark Ryan, Russ Bowoi, Sidney Horton, Steve Cullipher, Allen Lee and Dempsey Elks are featured. The story revolves Obituary Mrs. Edna G. Herring Mrs. Edna Goodwin Herring, 73, of Scotland Neck, a retired school teacher, died July 1. Funeral services were held July 2 in Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. She is survived by one son, Bill Herring of Scotland Neck, N.C.; and three sisters, Mrs. Elsie G. Jones of Edenton, N.C., Mrs. Adrienne G. Hurdle of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Mrs. Mary G. Alderman of Rolesville, N.C. Information was supplied by Williford-Barham Funeral Home.
