Thursday, July 15, 1982 Class Os 1947 Holds 36th Reunion The Perquimans County High School Class of 1947 held a 35th reunion on July 3rd at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith, Sr. A day of greeting and fellowship was enjoyed culminating with a pig picking dinner, the pig being prepared by Paul Smith, Sr. and Paul Smith, Jr. After a welcome by Clifford Winslow, class president, Floyd Long gave an invocation. A delicious dinner was enjoyed by all. After dinner a booklet was presented to those present containing a 1982 reunion program as well as the three previous reunion programs and the 1947 commencement exercises program. Clifford Winslow recognized Jeanne White and Mary Inez Harrell for preparing the class momentos. Recognized as special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Tim Brinn (Mary Alice Cahoon), Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith, Jr. and Jason and W DR. A. F. DOWNUM, JR. OPTOMETRIST Is One Eye As Good As Two? Haskett presented gifts to Vivian Evans for traveling the greatest distance to attend, to Jeanne C. White for having the youngest child, to Mildred T. Winslow for having the most children, and to Thomas and Alary Raper Butt (both 1947 class members) for having the most grandchildren. Mary I. Harrell read the 1947 class prophecy and shared some happenings concerning classmates. Clifford Winslow asked for comments and some were offered causing much laughter and some serious thoughts. Those present voted to have another get together in five years. The committee members appointed for 1987 are Durwood Barber, Faye Lassiter, Audrey Ayscue, Lloyd Dail, Jeanne White and Clifford Winslow. Scouts Go Canoeing Promoting sco&hg Ut Chowan County anreTetting the boys enjoy then Selves”, Stan Turbyfill and a corp of 11 youths returned to Chowan County Sunday after a three - day canoe trip starting in Franklin, Va. and culminating at Arrowhead Beach, Chowan County. TurbyfiU said the youths, ranging in ages 11 - 14, thoroughly enjoyed the trip though the weather got rough at times during the 50 - mile adventure. Shelton Butler, who aided TurbyfiU in getting the trip afloat, said this was the first event of this sort. “What we’d like to do is get more kids interested when they find out how much fun it is,” he added. “We not only have fun,” TurbyfiU said. “We stress character, concern for others and responsibility in these boys.
