Around The Chowan By Mike Williams The Albemarle Area Development Association is sponsoring two annual awards programs that many may be interested in participating. The Organization Recognition and Awards Program is based on ac tivity in the following areas: Leadership Development, Beautification of Home and Community, Improvement of the Environment, Development of Social, Economic and Religious Activities, Improvement of Schools, Churches, etc., Promotion of Projects for Youth, Adults, Older Citizens, Encouragement of Health and Fitness Program, Promotion of Home and Community Safety and Tourist Development. Any organized group may participate if they are conducting projects or programs in one or more of the areas listed above. Entering is simple. American Legion News By Jim Criddle The big news this week is the Chowan County Fair. This years theme is “Community Progress”. This year the midway is going to be the biggest yet. There is going to be twenty two rides plus Carla Wallenda on the high wire. For the first time we will crown Miss Northeastern Pork Queen. Jack Miller is in charge of booth construction. Tuesday Sept. 14 is the night for setting up booth’s in the main hall. Anyone who can help, call Jack at 482 - 4503 or come out to the Post at 7 P.M.
