B and S Enterprises, Hertford Motor Company and Byrum Implement Company are a few of the companies sponsoring farm equipment displays. Guests Jim Walter, president of the N.C. Soybean Association, and representatives of the N.C. Peanut Growers Association will be on hand with demonstrations. Hot dogs, hamburgers and other refreshments will go on sale at 10 A.M. and en tertainment is planned throughout the day. E.L. Indian Summer Festival Hurdle will provide his famous french fried sweet potatoes. Billie Whitehurst of Museum of the Albemarle is scheduled to present a lecture on the Algonquin Indians at 3 P.M. at the Perquimans Senior Center. Friday will find Hert ford’s sidewalks filled with old-fashioned bargains and historic window displays as the merchants participate in Colonial Day. Character portrayals of historic Perquimans people will be presented on the Courthouse Green beginning at 11 A.M. and a walking tour of historic places will begin at 1 P.M. at the Perquimans Courthouse. To further promote the colonial theme Friday, the Hertford Fife and Drum Corps will present a historical flag display at 4 P.M. Seafood lovers can try out the Fish Fry at the American Legion in Hert ford beginning at 4 P.M. Plates will cost $3 each and can be taken out or enjoyed at Missing Mill Park. Festivities will continue at Memorial Field in Hertford where Perquimans Pirates fans will gather to cheer their victory of the Hurricanes of Northampton- West. Halftime activities will include the celebrated Marching Pirates in uniform for their second season, directed by David Ziemba. Gametime is 8 P.M. A 5K Race and Fun Run will begin Saturday’s Fun Day. The run which will begin at Hertford Grammar School, is open to all ages. Trophies will be awarded to the overall winner and to winners in several age groups. Registration will begin at 8:30 A.M. Co-kponsored by the Perquimans County Parks WRSfrrtfctibn Department and the Chamber of Com merce, the entry fee is $7. The fun run is sl. While joggers race over the 3.1-mile trek, booths will be opening downtown, selling wares from arts to crafts to chocolate cakes to popcorn. Participting will be craftsmen offering wood craft, crochet, dolls, pup pets, ducks, windchimes, pillows, baskets, Christmas ornaments, quilt racks, shells, plastic needlepoint, counted cross stitch, fabric craft, and much more. Plenty of food will be on hand, along with com mercial displays downtown. A dunking booth, train rides, fishing, apple bob bing, face painting, scavenger hunting and other activities have been scheduled for children in the park playground in Hert ford. A full line-up of en tertainment has been scheduled for the downtown area and Missing Mill Park through Saturday. The festival will wind up at 8 P.M. Saturday with a street dance at Missing Mill Park featuring Nita Bowen and the Dixie Clippers. Helium balloons, festival T-shirts, and other novelties will be on sale throughout town during the three-day fest.
