every classroom in Swain

were happy to find that each
class is actively involved in
the new “Courtesy Is
Contagious” campaign.
The “Courtesy Is Con
tagious” program is being
emphasized throughout the
1982 - 1983 school year in the
school system, town of
Edenton and Chowan
county. The courtesy theme
stresses courtesy to our
nation’s flag, our country,
courtesy to adults and
courtesy to students.
Each school is par
ticipating in the courtesy
campaign with many ac
tivities. The principals of
each school report the
following activities.
1. White Oak Elementary
School (K-5) Etheridege
Ricks, Principal. An
assembly is held every week
featuring the students
marching in with the
American flag. Students are
learning how to sell items in
a courteous manner.
Students are learning all
aspects of courtesy.
2. Edenton - Chowan
Alternative School - Clara
Boswell, Principal. The
initials for the Alternative
School are E.C.A.S. These
initials during the 1982 - 1983

Symptoms Os Appendicitis
Appendicitis...you may
know the name, but do you
know the symptoms?
Appendicitis often begins
as a stomach ache which
may shift from the pit of the
stomach to the lower right
side. Typical symptoms are
pain, tenderness, and spasm
often in the right side of the
abdomen, usually ac
companied by a slight fever.
Nausea and vomiting may
also occur.
The North Carolina
Medical Society says acute
appendicitis must be treated
immediately.
The Courtesy campaign of
the Edenton - Chowan
Schools is being sponsored
by the Bank of North
Carolina, MitchenlW’s
Pharmacy, Parker-EvattS
Hardware, M.G. Bniwn
Company, Edenton office
Supply, Coble
Hardees of Edenton, Quian
Furniture Company: and
Pizza Hut of Edenton.
The appendix is a three or
four - inch pouch located at
>fn:.
the beginning of the. large
intestine. During an attack
of appendicitis, this organ
becomes so inflamed it can
burst. To avoid the serious
complications of a burst
appendix, a medical
diagnosis should be made as
soon as possible. If you
suspect that you or someone
you are with has ap
pendicitis, contact a
physician immediately.
