N.C. Business Index Business activity in North Carolina increased moderately in August, according to the Wachovia Business Index. The Index registered 151.8, up 0.7 per cent from the July level. Non-agricultural em ployment remained vir tually flat in August, while the average manufacturing workweek increased 2.4 per cent, price-adjusted average hourly earnings for manufacturing employees declined 0.8 per cent from the previous month. Seasonally adjusted, the number of people unem ployed increased by 22,100. Manufacturing em ployment was up 0.5 per cent in 'August, with both durable iind non-durable goods 'lndustries showing moderate employment growth. In the first of two games in week one, the Eagles flew past the Fisher Nut team snth a hard fought 31-24 win. Robert Granby, Herbert McPherson and Tommy Nixon all figured in the Eagles scoring. Granby raced for 3 touchdowns, McPherson scampered 23 yards for ips tally and Nixon plunged‘inter from the one yard line for the Eagles fifth TD. Wallace Holley coun tered with two runs of 31 and 26 yards for Fisher while Derrick Felton and Tony White each added a TD run to help their team’s effort. In the second game, the Redskins scalped the Cowboys by a 32-6 score. William Hill started things for the Redskins with a 58 yard kick-off return. Then the brother duo of Melvin and Percy Nixon took over and scored the next four touchdowns. Greg Twine prevented a shut-out with a 27 yard run for the Cowboys. In action in week two, the Eagles took a 26-0 victory over the Cowboys. The Eagles did most of their damage in the first half’s only score on a 44 yard gallop. Dwayne Goodwin turned in a strong defensive effort for the Cowboys. In the second game, Fisher overcame their defeat in week one by shelling the Redskins by a 30-20 score. Wallace Holley silenced the Redskins with touchdown runs of 15,31,41, and 51 yards. Soccer Scores In soccer action last Tuesday, the Netters tangled with the Kickers in Mite league action and took a 3-1 victory in a very ex citing game. Wilson Busby scored all 3 goals for the Netters. Lee Farless stopped a shut-out with a goal in the 4th period. In Midget soccer action, TGAY used 4 people to score goals and claimed an 8-2 win over Carolina Lightnin’, Carroll Bunch scored 3 goals and Mike Williams scored once.
